Warehouse Associate (Part-Time)
Southern States Cooperative invites applications for the Warehouse Associate (Part-Time) role. The position is located in Reidsville, NC and involves performing a variety of retail operations functions to ensure sales readiness and customer support at Southern States Cooperative, Inc. (SSC) service and cooperative locations.
Essential Job Functions
Maintain regular communication with store leadership for daily assignments and provide timely information regarding receiving, inventory supply, customer orders, showroom appearance, facility maintenance, safety, loss prevention, and other critical operational factors.
Provide prompt and courteous customer support, assist with filling orders, lift and access products, load merchandise into vehicles, and verify invoices to ensure proper merchandise and quantities are loaded and secured.
Receive merchandise deliveries at the facility warehouse according to established procedures, unload merchandise (pallets, boxes, bulk, large items), count and verify accuracy against purchase orders and shipping documents, inspect for damage or defects, and notify the supervisor of any errors or quality issues.
Safely move merchandise throughout the warehouse using proper equipment and manual lifting, perform pallet put‑away, store merchandise in racking or designated locations, and manually stack mixed pallets for warehouse storage or showroom replenishment.
Perform showroom replenishment, stock merchandise, and maintain clean, well‑organized displays, ensuring items are accessible to customers.
Reconfigure store shelving, build endcaps, and assist with creating merchandise displays using plan‑ograms.
Deliver bulk and/or packaged merchandise to customer locations using SSC vehicles.
Fill propane cylinders and operate all propane‑related equipment according to established procedures, safety protocols, and licensing requirements.
Assist facility team members in taking physical inventory according to established guidelines.
Monitor entrances and exits to promote security, safety, and minimize merchandise loss; request receipts or proof of payment; and report potential security concerns to store leadership.
Perform regular inspections of forklifts and other industrial equipment, report maintenance needs, and assist with equipment maintenance as needed.
Execute daily housekeeping duties and general facility maintenance to keep warehouse, showroom, outside lot, and display areas neat and safe; perform lawn care, snow removal, painting, and other maintenance assignments as required by location.
Work safely to protect yourself, customers, property, coworkers, equipment, and inventory; use personal protective equipment as required; operate all equipment in compliance with SSC policy, government regulations, OSHA, and Southern States Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards.
Perform all other job functions as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
High School Diploma, General Education Degree (GED) required.
Forklift Certification required (or ability to obtain within a given period).
Commercial Driver’s License and/or Propane Certification may be required depending on location.
Ability to learn, operate, and maintain forklift, front‑end loader, pallet jack, skid loader, and other industrial equipment.
Understand and follow safety, quality control, and operating procedures consistently.
Accurately identify and locate merchandise using labels, barcodes, and tracking methods.
Apply logic and understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions.
Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentage calculation using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
Effective communication with customers, team members, and management.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills for paperwork.
Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
Ability to work in a fast‑paced team environment and extended hours during peak periods.
Work Environment The role is performed primarily in a warehouse environment (may be exposed to seasonal temperature and humidity variations), a retail showroom, and occasionally outdoors with limited weather protection.
Possible hazards include drafts, temperature changes, wet floors, sharp or hazardous materials, dust, fumes, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, and noise. Personal protective equipment (hard hat, steel‑toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection) is required as applicable.
Physical Demands
Continuous balance, bending, and stacking; reach, lift, and carry 10–50 pounds unassisted; pull, push, lift, carry 50–100 pounds (may be assisted).
Frequent crouching, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motions while operating motorized equipment.
Occasional climbs, sits, shovels, and sweeps; lift, push, carry over 100 pounds (may be assisted).
Good vision (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception) and ability to hear equipment sounds and communicate with coworkers.
