About the Role As a Saw Operator at Atlas Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries in Birmingham, AL, you will ensure high‑quality tube production through safe operation of saw equipment, accurate measurement, and effective coordination with mill operations. This role is ideal for someone who is detail‑oriented, safety‑focused, and thrives in a hands‑on manufacturing environment.
What You’ll Do
Follow HazCom and workplace safety practices to maintain a safe working environment.
Receive and interpret verbal or written instructions to support daily production needs.
Work from rolling schedules to process material to proper size, gauge, and length.
Perform quality checks to ensure product meets specifications and provide feedback to operators.
Conduct weld crush tests to verify weld integrity.
Adjust Turkshead rolls to maintain straightness tolerances.
Assist with mill changeovers and set up traveling cutoff saws for each size.
Replace saw blades and dies while adjusting guide rolls as needed.
Set up and operate diagraph printing equipment.
Perform pull tests for each new heat.
Complete required operating and quality reports accurately.
Clean slugs and maintain cleanliness in saw house, exit conveyor, and handling areas.
Assist maintenance personnel with equipment repairs.
Support other operators during breakdowns, bottlenecks, or scheduled downtime.
Report equipment irregularities or malfunctions to management or maintenance.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
Maintain regular, full‑time onsite attendance per the posted schedule.
Who You Are
Ability to work various shifts.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Overhead crane and forklift certification preferred.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Basic computer skills and ability to read measuring devices.
Basic math skills.
Certification required to operate a forklift, crane, and hand tools.
Strong listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Visual acuity for reading and recording numerical data.
Strong attention to detail, dependability, and professionalism.
Physical Abilities The physical demands reflect the aggregated requirements of all Birmingham facility shop‑floor positions. Duties may involve standing, walking, lifting, operating required equipment, and wearing necessary PPE. These factors should be considered when evaluating physical and cognitive capability for the role.
