The Maryland National Capital Park & Planning Commission is an award‑winning organization with over 5,000 employees that administers over 52,000 acres of stream valley parks, large regional parks, neighborhood parks, and park‑school recreation areas throughout Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. In Prince George’s County, we are also responsible for developing the County’s public recreation programs. The Department of Parks & Recreation has the overall responsibility for planning, supervising, and coordinating all park/recreation facilities and services throughout Prince George’s County. The Northern Region Parks Division (NRPD) is one of three maintenance Divisions within this Department and is composed of eight major work programs: Fleet Management/Trades, Building Maintenance, Area Maintenance, Playgrounds, Trails, Athletic Field/Turf Management, Trash/Recycling/Waste Management, Program Support, and the administrative section. The mission of NRPD is to provide professional, high‑quality maintenance and maintenance support services for all parks and recreation facilities and to support the diverse work programs of the Parks & Recreation Department in Prince George’s County and its customers. At that time, a new job posting may be available for application to future openings. Responsibilities

Perform routine inspections of park facilities, program areas, and event spaces throughout the Northern Region to ensure safe, clean, and operational conditions prior to and following programs and special events. Operate CDL and non‑CDL vehicles, including dump trucks, stake body trucks, flatbeds, trailers, and utility vehicles to transport equipment, materials, and supplies to and from park sites and program locations. Provide logistical support for recreation programs, athletic activities, community events, and agency‑sponsored functions by delivering, setting up, and removing equipment and amenities. Install, move, and remove temporary and permanent amenities including stages, tents, tables, chairs, barricades, cones, signage, portable restrooms, fencing, and athletic equipment. Lead and supervise small work crews during program and event setup, breakdown, and site restoration activities. Perform general grounds maintenance in support of programs, including mowing, trimming, leaf removal, debris removal, and light landscaping using riding mowers, string trimmers, backpack blowers, and hand tools. Provide snow and ice removal support for walkways, parking areas, and program access points using hand tools, snow blowers, and plow‑equipped vehicles as needed. Assist with custodial support for program facilities, including trash collection, restroom servicing, light cleaning, and restocking supplies during and after events. Inspect, secure, and report maintenance or safety concerns related to program equipment, facilities, and vehicles to the appropriate Supervisor or Leader. Serve as on‑site operational support for large‑scale events by assisting staff, vendors, and park visitors with access, traffic flow, equipment placement, and general inquiries. Monitor on‑site conditions during programs and special events to ensure compliance with safety procedures and operational standards. Maintain accurate communication with supervisors regarding job progress, completion of assignments, equipment issues, and any incidents requiring immediate attention. Perform minor repairs and routine maintenance on program equipment, furnishings, and related infrastructure as assigned. Follow all MNCPPC safety policies, CDL regulations, traffic control procedures, and equipment operation standards at all times. Qualifications

High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED). Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance or park maintenance. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total four (4) years. Valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of their position. Pass Commission medical examination. Depending upon the area of assignment, some positions in this class require within 12 months of hire (a) Commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements; (b) obtainment of certifications including: Classification Specification: Principal Parks/Facilities Maintenance Worker‑CDL May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing. This position may involve seasonal weekend work and seasonal work schedule adjustments. Exposed to weather, dirt, waste, odors, caustic chemicals, pesticides, wildlife, and potentially harmful insects. The ability to lift 100 pounds is desirable.
