Position Summary This position is responsible for general operations and maintenance support in order to maintain high plant availability, including condition monitoring and optimization, development and implementation of best practices for predictive and preventative maintenance, development of maintenance management system, development and maintenance of critical spares program, and remote monitoring of asset health. This position will be based at one of several California plant locations which will be supported.
Essential Functions
Thorough understanding of battery operation to include start‑up, shutdown and emergency operational actions.
Perform both routine and non‑routine preventative and corrective maintenance on plant equipment.
Make plant rounds, log equipment operating parameters and make adjustments on equipment as required.
Schedule and coordinate field related activities in conjunction with the operations management.
Requisition and assist in ordering and receiving plant materials.
Represent the Company with vendors and regulators as assigned.
Evaluate and find causes for equipment, procedural, and conditional control systems inefficiencies.
Strictly adhere to and enforce safety procedures as required by VESI, NFPA70E, and OSHA.
Work with contractors and other temporary labor during on‑site activities.
Use installed and portable test equipment, technical manuals, system drawings and electrical schematics to troubleshoot equipment and systems.
Field equipment programming and troubleshooting.
Operate a vehicle safely, enter and exit vehicle without assistance, remain alert while driving continuously, and read and understand maps.
Be on‑call to troubleshoot remotely if required.
Travel overnight approximately 25% of the time by air, train or auto.
Other Responsibilities
Climb ladders, elevated platforms, ladders and walkways.
Maintain trend reports on equipment operation for assigned system.
Sit or stand for long periods of time with moderate bending, stooping, and kneeling.
Complete various plant reports.
Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required
High school diploma with at least two (2) years of technical training in operations and routine maintenance of battery storage, power plants and four years of experience working in a power plant or an equivalent environment.
Thorough knowledge of operating a power plant or battery storage facility.
Thorough knowledge and/or background for operating and maintaining mechanical and/or electrical systems. Ability to maintain electrical systems is preferred.
Knowledge and understanding of PLC‑based instrumentation and control systems. Ability to troubleshoot, repair and calibrate is preferred.
Ability to understand engineering design drawings, vendor equipment drawings and technical information.
Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools and test equipment normally used in a power plant environment.
Thorough knowledge of plant hazards and safety requirements.
Thorough knowledge of computer‑based preventive maintenance programs.
Computer literate in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and various other programs.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Must possess at any time a valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to ORMAT’s auto insurance carrier.
Ability to make effective long‑term and instantaneous decisions.
Ability to solve problems.
Attention to detail.
Use discretion to balance competing priorities.
Familiarity with standard power plant PPE and its proper use.
Available for off‑shift call‑in.
Work independently and be the only company person on site.
May be called upon to travel to other company sites.
Physical Requirements
Occasionally perform heavy lifting up to 75 pounds.
Frequent climbing to and working off of elevated platforms, ladders and walkways.
Work in confined spaces and in harsh weather conditions.
Wear a variety of protective equipment.
Job requires sitting 30% of the time and standing 70%.
Work at a computer and computer monitor for long periods of time and stay alert.
