Acceptable Experience and Education Associate degree or technical trade school in electronics or related field, or its equivalent, plus at least two (2) years of experience in electronics or related field; and six (6) months experience with jail standards.

Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Certificates and Licenses Required Journeyman license; and must have or obtain by date of hire Texas class "C" driver's license applicable to job responsibilities, with a driving record acceptable to the County of El Paso.

Essential Duties

Assists with the operations of the Sheriff's Maintenance section and monitors and directs the electronics specialist.

Troubleshoots and repairs electronic, electrical, fire alarm, fire protection, and HVAC equipment.

Inventories tools and keys.

Provides technical instructions, assignments and assistance to the Electronics Technician.

Installs, maintains, or repairs security systems, alarm devices, or related equipment, following blueprints, schematics and other written instructions to physically assemble electronic components.

Makes modifications to components to comply with new standards as established by regulation.

Inspects and documents contractor work.

Maintains and repairs various types of electronic equipment.

Installs, repairs, and programs alarm systems and associated equipment.

Establishes and maintains a filing system for all electronic equipment related blueprints, schematics, factory manuals and other pertinent documentation.

Climbs, installs and maintains pole mounted electronic equipment.

Conducts inspections and corrects problems found.

Collects and prepares data for budget and upgraded projects.

Establishes and maintains logs as required by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.

Maintains list of materials needed for repairs.

Trains employees.

Substitutes, if assigned, during temporary absences by performing delegated duties sufficient to maintain continuity of normal operations.

Commits self to providing excellent customer service and demonstrates commitment through cooperative team and individual efforts.

Creates a high quality work culture through participation in and emphasis on training and mentoring to develop leadership, management, and technical skills in self and all employees, including safety related training and skills.

Other Important Duties

The position requires day/swing/night shift work, work on holidays and weekend, and frequent on call duties.

Performs delegated duties sufficient to maintain continuity or normal operation in the work area.

Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

As members of the County of El Paso Emergency Response System, all El Paso County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to train on emergency response and/or perform certain emergency services at the direction of their supervisor.

Summary of Position The Facilities Maintenance Mechanic, Senior/Electronics, works under the general direction. The foreman assists with the operations of the Sheriff's Maintenance section and monitors and directs the electronics specialist. The specialist performs a variety of technical tasks related to installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing county owned electronic equipment, including electronic communication and surveillance, fire and fire protection, life safety, phone and alarm system equipment.

Minimum Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of supervisory techniques; electronics, electrical and mechanical principles; Federal, State and Local rules and regulations; OSHA regulations; modern office practices and procedures.

Skill/Ability to understand and follow instructions from supervisor; operate various test and metering equipment, machinery, hand and power tools in a safe manner; troubleshoot and repair electronic, electrical and HVAC equipment; read blue line drawings; read and interpret instructions, wiring diagrams and schematics, technical information, and parts catalogs; operate personal computer and various software applications; perform mathematical calculations and proofread material; understand and carry out oral and written instructions precisely; maintain confidentiality of information; establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; speak effectively in English; Pass a Criminal Background Investigation.
