President of the Board of Directors Kids Enjoy Exercise Now (KEEN) Chicago is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and affiliate of KEEN USA. The Board President is the Primary Executive Officer and will guide the organization’s strategic direction and day‑to‑day governance.

Responsibilities

Chair meetings: preside over the full Board, host executive committee meetings as needed, facilitate BOD votes, set agendas and send reminders for monthly BOD meetings.

Lead the Board: provide leadership to the Board and support the Board’s role in planning and execution necessary to fulfill its responsibilities.

Represent the Board: act as the face of the organization to stakeholders such as donors, collaborators, vendors, and the media; represent KEEN Chicago on the KEEN USA Board or delegate appropriately.

Coordinate work: coordinate the work of the Board, officers, and committees; delegate responsibilities as appropriate and necessary; connect with the Executive Director biweekly to ensure programmatic initiatives run smoothly.

Recruit members: collaborate with the governance committee to recruit new Board members to fill skill gaps and play a key role in succession planning.

Develop relationships: develop and maintain positive relationships with Board members, KEEN staff, volunteers, participating youth, and the community as a whole.

Assess performance: assess the performance of the Board and its committees as well as paid staff members.

Oversee staff matters: have authority to (i) hire and fire employees, (ii) hire outside services, and (iii) execute contracts as authorized by the Board; convene Board discussions on evaluating staff and negotiating compensation and benefits packages; establish a search and selection committee (usually as chair) for hiring when there is a staff vacancy.

Nominating committee chairs: nominate committee chairs in coordination with the governance committee.

Establish task forces: establish task forces for specific and focused priority areas for the organization.

Policy adherence: ensure the Board approves and follows policies to help ensure sound governance and management.

Strategic planning: work with the Executive Director and BOD to develop and execute an organizational strategic plan of action.

Financial oversight: oversee the organization’s finance committee, including developing financial plans and monitoring the budget to ensure the organization has sufficient resources to fulfill its mission.

Culture: create and promote a positive, collaborative, accepting work environment.

Time Commitment ~10‑20 hours per month.
