Job Summary
Augusta University's Dental College of Georgia (DCG) seeks a Department Chair of General Dentistry. The Chair will oversee teaching programs at the pre‑doctoral level, research, scholarship, intramural faculty practice, and administrative leadership for senior‑student comprehensive care patient experiences. The Chair reports directly to the Dean, collaborates with all DCG chairs and deans, and promotes a positive, productive, and caring environment for faculty, staff, residents, students, and patients. This full‑time position holds the rank of Associate Professor or Professor and may be tenured or non‑tenure track administrative faculty. Responsibilities
Teaching – 45%
Participate in departmental teaching responsibilities including lectures, seminars, simulation laboratories, clinical supervision and related activities at the pre‑doctoral level, primarily for the senior‑year comprehensive care program. Scholarship – 15%
Engage in research and scholarly activities to achieve academic outcomes such as journal publications and invited professional presentations. Service – 10%
Participate in DCG and Augusta University committees and other professional activities that bring distinction to the incumbent, the Department of General Dentistry, and DCG. Clinical/Patient Care – 10%
Perform patient care through the intramural practice of AU Dental Associates to maintain clinical skills. Administration – 20%
Lead the Department of General Dentistry, providing guidance in research, teaching, and service, and direction for curriculum and faculty development. Required Qualifications
DDS/DMD degree. At least 5 years’ experience in dental education and 2 years in a relevant leadership role. Experience with CODA processes for pre‑doctoral programs. Experience collaborating with senior administrative leaders in dental schools, universities, and accreditation or licensing agencies. Experience with professional organizations related to education, research, and restorative practice. Academic rank: Associate Professor (≥5 years at Assistant Professor rank) or Professor (≥5 years at Associate Professor rank). Preferred Qualifications
Graduate degree in business/administration (MBA, MPA) or a certificate in business, admin, or educational management/leadership. At least five years in full‑time private practice or equivalent military service providing general/restorative dental care, with leadership training focused on higher education. Compensation & Benefits
This is a fiscal‑year based position working year‑round, full‑time (FTE 1.0). Salary is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements and is subject to availability of funds.
