The Strategic Capital Project Engineer Senior will manage projects associated with strategic initiatives for the North America Business / Phosphate units. Tasks include preliminary and detailed project scoping, engineering design, scheduling, cost estimating, cost control (forecasting and accruals), procurement, supervision, construction management following industry and Mosaic project management policies and governance requirements, project status reporting to leadership and other stakeholders.
This role will collaborate very closely with the technical, functional, operational, maintenance, legal, EHS and other teams within the organization to support strategic business priorities, meet project objectives and achieve alignment across the board. It supports execution of strategic projects throughout Central FL and potentially LA (remote and with some travel as needed).
Project scopes may include management of projects similar to traditional phosphate fertilizer / heavy chemical industry projects involving process equipment design and fabrication, piping, material conveyance, structural steel, civil work, etc., but it will also include capital or research projects involving development of new process technologies, prototype and pilot or demonstration scale projects and scale up of projects from early research phases through commercialization.
What You’ll Do
Project execution and management: scope, schedule, budget, safety, quality / meeting project objectives, construction management, contractor management.
Responsible for safe execution of all capital projects, conducting safety observations and audits and collaborating closely with contractors and Mosaic project team members to implement a strong behavioral safety program.
Procurement activities – collaborate with Procurement Group in developing procurement strategies, scope of works, preparing requests for quotes and proposals (RFQ/RFP's), establishing list of potential bidders, conducting pre‑bid meetings, clarifying bidder's questions, evaluating bids, writing purchase requisitions, and reviewing/approving invoices.
Support site and company initiatives to safety, environmental, regulatory, production, expansion, and maintenance.
Technical/personal development and coach others (contractors, trades, training courses, etc.).
Travel as needed to support the various phases of the projects (design, fabrication, construction, etc.).
Manage the execution of strategic initiatives involving new process technologies including prototype /pilot scale through full‑scale operations.
Collaborate with various functional teams within the organization (technical services, maintenance, reliability, operations, EHS, legal, permitting, government agencies, internal regulatory, government affairs and third‑party consultants).
Cost estimation and cost control.
What You’ll Need
Bachelor’s in Engineering required (Chemical or Mechanical preferred).
Previous experience working with EPCM firms and other third‑party service providers in execution of complex industrial capital projects.
8+ years of related experience (Industrial / Chemical Industry project execution or engineering project management).
Experience in execution of research projects leading to full‑scale projects in the industrial or chemical industry space.
Experience supporting very large capital projects from inception through design, construction, commissioning, and startup.
Experience supporting complex and strategic projects and possessing broad interdisciplinary skills that bring together diverse stakeholders to solve very complex challenges.
Experience developing new and significantly different procedures for solving complex problems and consistently seeking innovative concepts and solutions.
Effective communication skills involving large numbers of stakeholders on critical projects.
Application of economic analysis to projects and understanding impacts to the wider organization.
Proficiency in MS Office suite, Engineering software, SAP/Maximo, Fieldglass, Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project scheduling.
P.E. and/or PMP certifications preferred.
Experience in execution of capital projects in petrochemical or Class I Division II processes preferred.
Understanding of applicable EHS regulatory environment and management systems and effective application of Mosaic's EHS practices, policies, and goals throughout all phases of capital projects.
Experience incorporating safety in all project phases, from design through construction, commissioning and startup.
Demonstrated knowledge of Mosaic's internal processes, policies, standards, best practices and equivalent processes from other industries.
