CANINE BEHAVIOR AND ENRICHMENT COORDINATOR Join the City of Cranford to apply for the CANINE BEHAVIOR AND ENRICHMENT COORDINATOR role. This position is responsible for the behavioral health and wellness of dogs in Columbia Animal Services by crafting and implementing behavioral plans, providing enrichment, and running programs through assessments and play groups.

Responsibilities

Communicate with management to create, update, and implement behavioral protocols for individual animals.

Assist with training of new kennel staff and volunteers in animal handling and enrichment.

Identify dogs that could benefit from alternative placement planning, such as rescue and foster.

Coordinate and oversee daily play groups for out-of-kennel enrichment opportunities.

Prepare individualized enrichment plans for dogs needing special care.

Observe, identify, and address animals showing signs of kennel stress and/or behavioral decline.

Prepare forms, reports, and correspondence; enter and retrieve computer data; copy and file documents.

Maintain assigned equipment and participate in daily cleaning and maintenance of the facility.

Attend training, meetings, workshops, and maintain job knowledge and required certifications.

Conduct inventory and restock supplies as needed.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.

One year of experience in an animal shelter or related environment.

One year of professional dog training or shelter behavior/enrichment team experience.

Experience with organized dog playgroups, preferably the Dogs Playing for Life model.

Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Basic math skills and ability to calculate ratios, rates, and percentages.

Ability to interact with irate citizens and provide assistance to facilitate tasks.

Ability to gather, organize, analyze data and prescribe action.

Ability to operate moderate instruction machines such as computers and animal restraint equipment.

Ability to perform clerical tasks, produce reports and letters with proper format.

Ability to work in a fluid environment with varying rules and procedures.

Job Requirements Physical requirements include walking, standing, stooping, lifting, climbing, and handling objects between 20-100 pounds on a recurring basis. Must handle exposure to animals, fumes, pathogens, chemicals, and dynamic changes in priorities.
