Heavy Equipment Operator – Streets The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full‑time Heavy Equipment Operator – Streets to help improve the day‑to‑day operations of our Engineering & Public Works Department.

Competitive salary:

$20.79 – $22.50 per hour, based on qualifications.

Job Summary Under general supervision, the operator drives trucks and operates motorized equipment capable of lifting over 3 tons to perform street maintenance and construction tasks such as swabbing ditches, setting culverts, and other public works duties.

Essential Functions

Maintain regular and timely attendance.

Drive and operate trucks and heavy equipment including dump trucks, smooth drum rollers, front loaders, backhoes, motor graders, and excavators.

Work with crews to dig, hoist, and haul materials.

Assist with semi‑skilled and unskilled duties such as patching streets and loading/unloading materials.

Inspect and service equipment daily; check tires, lights, brakes, gas, water, oil, hydraulic coolant, fittings, diesel grease, and perform minor repairs as needed.

Maintain telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive instructions.

Serve as essential personnel and remain available for immediate call‑in due to natural or man‑made disasters or other events deemed necessary by the Public Works Director or City Manager.

Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience & Licenses

High school diploma or equivalent (required).

Two to five years of experience in street maintenance and construction, including operation of heavy equipment (preferred).

Valid Texas Driver’s License.

CDL Class B with "N" endorsement.

Work Environment

The work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions.

Frequent exposure to high or precarious places and loud noise levels.

Employees may be required to remain available for immediate call‑in during disasters or other critical events.
