Assistant Superintendent of Student Services

The Assistant Superintendent of Student Services oversees all aspects and legal requirements of implementing the 23 Illinois Administrative Code and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The Assistant Superintendent of Student Services works collaboratively with the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment (CIA), and the entire administrative team, to accomplish the District’s goals. The Assistant Superintendent of Student Services supervises and evaluates the delivery of instruction in compliance with D47’s Strategic Plan, District policies, and procedures for the purpose of advancing student outcomes PreK-8 grade. Assigned Responsibilities

Attend Board meetings to provide support, information, and presentations Oversee all aspects of educational programming for students eligible to receive special education and Section 504 services in preschool through middle school within an MTSS framework Oversee Health Services for the District, inclusive of CSNs and School Nurses Facilitate 504 meetings, multidisciplinary conferences, IEP meetings and annual reviews Facilitate meetings with team leads Monitor team meetings for buildings, as well as, self-contained classrooms/programs Coordinate and direct the identification, placement, IEP/504 development and procedural safeguards of all students eligible for special education services and/or ADA accommodations Supervise the systematic development of programs and procedures for related service areas including social workers, psychologists, learning behavior specialists, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists and physical therapists Coordinate curriculum planning with all of the Curriculum Directors for students in resource and self-contained classrooms to ensure curriculum vertical and horizontal alignment with District goals and state learning standards Work closely with the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment (CIA) to write, submit and monitor all federal and state special education grants Promote collaboration between general education and special education staff Gather information and develop resources regarding alternative methods and models of student services and programming Develop a staffing plan annually that promotes equitable services to students in attainment of developmentally appropriate goals Provide consultation to staff on the district and individual building levels pertaining to procedures, services, and programming Oversee the District’s Parent & Staff Behavioral Advisory Committee Serve as the coordinator and point person for all due process and mediation related issues Serve as the District Title IX coordinator Serve as the Board’s suspension hearing officer Oversee student discipline, attendance, and school safety initiatives to maintain a safe school climate Serve as a liaison to the families and the community resources as appropriate Coordinate and provide consultation on staff evaluations to the building administrators Review applicable Board policies and make recommendations for changes and updates based on best practice and the law Implement and observe all Board policies, regulations and administrative procedures Assist in budget preparation for newly approved instructional programs as related to instructional supplies, equipment and materials Position Requirements

Valid Illinois Professional Educator License General Administrative and Director of Special Education Endorsements Special Education and/or School Service Personnel Endorsements Minimum of 5 years experience as a learning behavior specialist, teacher, and/or related service professional in the public school setting Minimum of 3 years experience in administration in the public education setting (or comparable experience) Administrator Evaluator designation Teacher Evaluator designation (preferred)
