Position Summary The Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) serves as a licensed/certified control room supervisor responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the nuclear reactor facility. This position requires direct oversight of reactor operations, leadership of operations personnel, and authority to make critical operational decisions in accordance with NRC regulations and plant procedures. The SRO ensures all nuclear operations meet regulatory requirements while maintaining optimal plant performance.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise and direct reactor operations from the main control room, ensuring compliance with Technical Specifications, NRC regulations, and plant operating procedures

Maintain active NRC Senior Reactor Operator license or Certification and fulfill all license requirements including continuing training, medical examinations, and fitness-for-duty obligations

Lead and mentor Reactor Operators and auxiliary Operators, providing guidance on operational procedures and professional development

Make real-time operational decisions during normal operations, transients, and emergency conditions to ensure reactor safety

Authorize and oversee maintenance activities, equipment tagging, and system alignments affecting reactor operations

Conduct pre-job briefs, shift turnovers, and operational reviews to ensure continuity and safety

Monitor reactor parameters, plant systems, and safety equipment status; respond appropriately to abnormal conditions and alarms

Participate in emergency response drills, evaluated exercises, and Regulatory inspections

Review and approve operating procedures, work orders, and safety evaluations within scope of authority

Support root cause analysis, corrective action programs, and continuous improvement initiatives

Provide input to operational and training programs to improve site and company operations

Competitive base salary ($175,000 - $190,000) annually with shift differential pay

Required Qualifications

Active NRC Senior Reactor Operator license, or ability to obtain SRO license within 18 months of hire

Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial nuclear power plant operations, with at least 2 years as a licensed Reactor Operator or commensurate naval nuclear qualification (ex. EOOW, EWS)

Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related technical field; OR equivalent combination of education, military nuclear training, and experience

Comprehensive knowledge of reactor theory, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and nuclear plant systems

Thorough understanding of 10 CFR 50, Technical Specifications, and NRC regulatory requirements

Strong leadership and decision-making abilities under high-pressure situations

Excellent communication skills with ability to provide clear direction and documentation

Ability to pass NRC medical examination and meet fitness-for-duty requirements

Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain unescorted access authorization

Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

Current or previous SRO license at a commercial nuclear power plant

Experience with advanced reactor technologies or small modular reactors (SMRs)

U.S. Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program training and experience (NNPP)

Simulator instructor or examiner experience

Emergency Response Organization (ERO) qualification

Experience with plant startup, commissioning, or new unit licensing

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Ability to work in industrial environments including exposure to heat, noise, and confined spaces

Must be able to climb ladders, navigate stairs, and access equipment in various plant areas

Capability to wear personal protective equipment including respiratory protection when required

Visual and auditory acuity are sufficient to monitor control room instrumentation and alarms

Ability to work extended hours during outages, emergencies, or as operational needs require
