Program Staff Overnight – St. Matthew's House (Southwest Florida)
Overview Our mission is to be an expression of God’s love in Southwest Florida, ensuring that those experiencing hunger, homelessness, or addiction are not alone or without a pathway from crisis to contribution. As Program Staff, you support the shelter housing program, delivering care and spiritual guidance in a compassionate environment that values discipline and respect. Key Responsibilities Work various shifts including second and third shifts and weekends. Enter accurate documentation in the Mission Tracker system. Check resident living areas for maintenance and compliance with shelter guidelines. Conduct random bed checks to ensure all residents are accounted for during overnight shifts. Perform regular security checks of the facility. Administer random drug screens on residents as required. Organize hygiene supplies and create hygiene kits while at the front desk. Complete discharge procedures for residents with accurate information. Securely store removed personal items from discharged residents in accordance with program guidelines. Provide transportation for residents to appointments and events. Use the phone system and transfer calls as needed. Work collaboratively with other staff to complete assigned tasks. Screen individuals attempting to enter the shelter after hours. Assist intake department with tasks as required. Treat residents with respect and maintain appropriate boundaries. Enforce shelter guidelines and hold residents accountable. Share the Gospel message when the opportunity arises. Pray with residents and staff as opportunities arise. Carry out all duties in alignment with St. Matthew’s House core values. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum 1 year of experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or addiction; ministerial counseling preferred. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Normal mental and visual capabilities. Physical ability to stand for at least 4 hours, lift up to 25 pounds, and bend or kneel to the ground. Working Conditions Normal office environment with nights, weekends, and variable shift times.
