Position Description
Ability to proficiently operate three or more types of heavy equipment such as a backhoe, trackhoe, scrapers, dozer, excavator, loader, rock trucks, compactors, articulated trucks, crushers, and/or motor graders with or without GPS to prepare the job site to meet required grades.
Fastens attachments to tractor with clevis or wedge pin hitches.
Connects hydraulic hoses, belts, mechanical linkage, or power takeoff shaft to tractor to provide power to raise, lower, or tilt attachment.
Controls tool bars, carriers, and disks by moving levers.
Operates hydraulic shovel using hand and foot levers.
Dig trenches and holes of specified dimensions, removes loosened material, and places it in piles or transport trucks.
Manages equipment to maneuver the attachment for right‑of‑way clearing.
Uses engine slip cues to estimate depth of cut.
Drives bulldozer in successive passes to achieve specified grades following grade stakes or hand signals.
Constructs and grades new roadways, base courses, building pads, footing excavation, and water ponds to specification.
Loads, moves, levels, and grades dirt, rocks, demolished concrete, and other materials efficiently in a high‑paced environment to maintain production goals.
Maintains initiative to keep workflow moving with minimal supervision.
Performs demolition of bridges and other structures with excavators and hydraulic hoe rams.
Operates equipment within a Pipe Crew environment such as an excavator or loader.
Conducts general housekeeping, light maintenance of equipment, and reports daily usage/utilization hours.
May work with GPS‑enabled devices on dozers and motor graders.
Adheres to safety standards of Ralph L. Wadsworth and its projects.
Works weekends, holidays, and/or overtime as project needs require.
Performs laborer work as required.
Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
Position Requirements
Minimum of 4 years of heavy equipment operating experience with multiple equipment types, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Willingness to perform laborer tasks.
Ability to work safely under pressure with time constraints in a changing environment.
Frequent gross body movements such as bending, climbing into equipment, lifting up to 75 lbs, twisting, standing, balancing, stooping, handling materials, and moving around hazardous sites.
Excellent eye‑to‑hand coordination and depth perception.
High School diploma or GED preferred.
Flexible availability for overtime and occasional weekends or nights.
Valid driver’s license.
