Park Maintenance III – Naperville Park District Under the general supervision of the Park Specialist II, Park Specialist I, or the Park Support, the Park Maintenance III position is responsible for performing a variety of semi‑skilled park maintenance activities necessary to maintain our parks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare and maintain turf, sports fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, and other park facilities.

Conduct ornamental horticulture maintenance, including planting trees, shrubs, and annual and perennial flowers, fertilization, seeding, mowing, sodding, and other horticulture needs.

Maintain trails through debris removal, grading, and renovation.

Maintain park pavilions, restrooms, equipment, signs, and assigned buildings.

Keep park grounds clean through litter pickup, recycling, bathroom cleaning, vandalism removal, controlled prairie and wood burns, and hardscape maintenance.

Perform power and trim mowing in assigned parks.

Support recreation programs, special events, volunteer programs, and athletic tournaments, including set‑up, tear‑down,and maintenance during events.

Carry out snow and ice removal operations using snow removal equipment on sidewalks, roads, and parking lots.

Demonstrate and support District customer service standards.

Other Duties and Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment, and other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Basic skill in operating tractors, heavy equipment, trucks, and other landscape maintenance equipment, with basic knowledge of equipment maintenance and repair.

Ability to work independently in day‑to‑day operations with general direction from a supervisor.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum three (3) months of park maintenance or landscape maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Valid driver’s license.

Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a Public Applicator pesticide license as required by departmental needs.

Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a Forklift Certification as required by departmental needs.

Special Considerations

Must be at least 18 years old.

Subject to both office and outside environmental conditions.

Subject to modified/flexible work schedules, including weekends.

Ability to lift, carry, and/or move objects weighing up to 50 lbs on a daily basis; lifting assistance required when lifting over 50 lbs.

Exposure to pesticides, chemicals, dust, fumes, dirt, loud noise, and insect bites.

Prolonged lifting, stooping, bending, twisting, standing, and climbing.

Ability to travel to and work at all Naperville Park District facilities.

Subject to confined space entry; required to participate in confined space entry training annually.

Subject to respirator use; may be required to pass a Quantitative Fit Test annually.

Manual dexterity and strength to operate power‑operated machines and equipment.

Regular onsite attendance is an essential function of this position.
