Azure Cloud VDI Engineer
This position is eligible for up to a 30k sign on bonus
We are looking for a highly skilled and driven Azure Cloud VDI Engineer to architect, build, and optimize our next-generation global Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solution in the Microsoft Azure cloud environment. This engineer will be responsible for the design, deployment, performance tuning, and cost optimization of Citrix-based VDI services running in the cloud, with a critical focus on scalability, reliability, and user experience.
This is not a maintenance-only role. We're seeking someone who thrives on innovation, continuously pilots new technologies, and refuses to settle for "good enough." You will be responsible for building smart, automated, and scalable systems that enable just-in-time provisioning of desktops for a global end user community—delivering maximum performance with minimal cloud cost.
Key Responsibilities
Architect and deploy Citrix VDI services in the Azure cloud to support global end user computing needs.
Design, implement, and maintain dynamic scaling and automation to support just-in-time desktop provisioning and efficient resource usage.
Engineer and optimize Azure cloud resources (compute, networking, storage, identity) to support scalable and secure VDI infrastructure.
Conduct benchmark testing of VDI images, analyze performance metrics, and implement tuning measures to ensure a high-quality user experience.
Collaborate with security, network, and support teams to ensure VDI services meet compliance and availability standards.
Evaluate and pilot alternative VDI platforms (e.g., Azure Virtual Desktop, VMware Horizon Cloud) to compare performance, cost, and manageability.
Monitor, analyze, and continuously improve the VDI environment to ensure optimal performance and cost-effectiveness.
Maintain documentation for architecture, deployments, performance baselines, and configuration standards.
Stay current with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and evolving cloud VDI trends.
What You’ll Need To Succeed Bring your technology expertise and drive for innovation to GDIT.
Azure Cloud VDI Engineer Must Have
Education: Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science
Experience: 5+ years of related experience with Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, including deployment, management, and performance tuning in enterprise environments.
Technical skills:
Strong experience with Microsoft Azure, particularly in deploying and managing VDI-related resources (e.g., Azure Compute, Azure Files, Azure NetApp Files, Azure Monitor).
Solid understanding of cloud-based automation and orchestration tools (e.g., PowerShell, Terraform, Azure Automation, ARM/Bicep).
Proven ability to implement scalable, cost-effective, and performant virtual desktop solutions in the cloud.
Experience with image optimization, session performance tuning, and capacity planning for VDI workloads.
Knowledge of identity management and access control integrations (e.g., Azure AD, Conditional Access) for secure desktop delivery.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
Must be willing to support an on-call rotation
Security clearance level: TS/SCI w/Poly
US citizenship required
Certification Required: 8570 compliant with a Security + certificate
Location: Onsite Annapolis Junction, MD
