Primary Purpose The academic dean leads in the development, implementation, evaluation and/or review of innovative programs for the district. Develops, implements and assists with district assessments. Assist in the monitoring and implementation of district instructional programs and initiatives, while maintaining congruency between all academic activities in the district. Works with instructional staff to develop and implement effective intervention plans for students demonstrating a need. Oversees the implementation of college and career readiness activities. Assists with social emotional programing for students. Assist in ensuring sound implementation of curriculum and staff development to improve student achievement. Help to maintain a safe, positive and orderly learning environment for staff and students.
Qualifications
Education/Certification: Master’s degree in education related field from an accredited university
Texas Mid-management or Principal certification preferred
Minimum 3 years classroom teaching experience required
Campus leadership or district level experience preferred
Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) appraiser
Special Knowledge / Skills
Thorough knowledge of principles and best practices of current school education and the ability to apply them to the needs of the school
Thorough knowledge of current curriculum and instructional practices, TEKS, state testing programs, public school administration and organization
Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate teaching support services, student services, student activities, and school/community relations programs
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, administrators, and the community
Ability to multi-task and effectively communicate, both orally and in writing
Ability to interpret data and manage student information systems
Major Responsibilities and Duties Other duties may be assigned.
Participate in the development and evaluation of educational programs
Coordinate the implementation of professional development
Serves as the District Testing Coordinator
Coordinates support services for students that support academic achievement
Ensures district vertical alignment by facilitation of district curriculum and instruction
Coordinates assessment, ordering, distribution, and inventory of instructional materials
Develop, analyze, and monitor district academic assessment and diagnostic data
Coordinates family engagement activities that support academic success
Assist in facilitating academic compliance proceduresFollow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
Supervisory Responsibilities: As assigned.
Tools/Equipment Used Standard office equipment including computer devices and peripherals.
Posture, Motion, Lifting, Environment, Mental Demands Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching. Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds). Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather), exposure to noise; occasional districtwide and statewide travel. Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
