Position Summary We are currently looking for a Field Applications Specialist I (FAS) to join our team at AKBA! The individual in this role will support the Purification Business Unit by conducting small‑scale virus clearance studies (VCS) at BSL‑2 facilities (at both contract research organizations and customer sites). Under the supervision or mentorship of a senior team member, the FAS helps optimize VCS design and execution and supports internal projects or customer‑driven troubleshooting efforts as issues arise, in the Glenview laboratory. The FAS also manages all field equipment used for small‑scale filtration and virus clearance studies, ensuring all assets are operational, calibrated, and ready for use.

Duties / Responsibilities

Virus clearance study support:

Support simple virus clearance studies for filling at BSL‑2 facilities

Prepare study reports from validation studies for customers

Field Equipment Management:

Maintain small scale virus filtration kits

Ensure proper calibration and verification of equipment

Internal laboratory project:

Support internal laboratory projects at the Glenview facility (with supervision)

Generate technical reports from internal studies (under the guidance of a senior FA member)

Timely communication and regular exchange of information and resources

Documentation of internal and external requests for information

Prediction of future or similar requests

Proactive approach to address future requests

Father in‑depth customer processing knowledge and organize findings

Presentation of current projects or project updates at department meeting

Maintain on‑going understanding of the biotechnology industry including trends within recombinant protein and plasma fractionation by supporting customer visits, review of trade journals and attendance at industry conferences

Qualifications / Requirements

BS in Life Sciences

0 - 2 years lab experience

Experience operating with sterile technique

Experience with nano‑filtration or other protein purification is a plus

Strong verbal and communications skills required

Physical Demands / Environmental Conditions

This position requires approximately 50% travel, primarily covering the East Coast, with occasional travel to the Midwest and West Coast.

When not traveling, the employee will work in a hybrid environment, splitting time between the Glenview office and their home office.

Compensation The base compensation range for this role is $62,000-$67,000. Base Compensation is influenced by many factors including, but not limited to: time in the role, previous experience, skills, knowledge, performance, work requirements, internal equity, and business / economic conditions.
