Base pay range $25.00/hr - $26.00/hr

The Patient Account Representative is responsible for accurately posting insurance payments, resolving payment discrepancies, and supporting the overall revenue cycle through timely and precise account management. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent analytical skills, and experience working within EPIC to ensure accurate account reconciliation and optimal cash flow.

Key Responsibilities

Accurately post high-volume insurance payments, adjustments, and denials into EPIC.

Reconcile electronic remittance advice (ERA) and paper explanations of benefits (EOBs) to patient accounts.

Identify and correct posting errors, payment variances, and account discrepancies.

Review insurance remittances to ensure payments align with contracted rates and insurance guidelines.

Work collaboratively with billing, collections, and revenue cycle teams to resolve issues affecting payment accuracy.

Monitor and maintain assigned work queues in EPIC to ensure timely follow-up and account resolution.

Assist with month-end cash reconciliation and reporting as needed.

Communicate with insurance carriers to clarify payment details or resolve inconsistencies.

Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and internal revenue cycle policies.

Support continuous process improvement to streamline cash posting operations.

Qualifications

1–3 years of experience in medical billing, insurance payment posting, or patient accounting required.

Proficiency with EPIC (or other major EHR systems) required; experience with EPIC cash posting strongly preferred.

Strong understanding of insurance reimbursement, EOBs, ERAs, and common denial codes.

High accuracy and attention to detail in a high-volume environment.

Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.

Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams and insurance carriers.

High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework in healthcare administration or accounting preferred.

Preferred Skills

Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance payment structures.

Familiarity with contracted payer rates and reconciliation processes.

Proficiency with Excel and basic reporting tools.
