Overview
Join the City of Medford Police Department as a
Lateral Police Officer . Candidates with current state certification and at least 18 months of experience are eligible. We are hiring to fill positions immediately and will use this posting to create an eligibility list for future openings.
Responsibilities As a lateral officer, you will patrol the city, enforce laws, engage with the community, and support specialized units. Duties include defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations, crisis negotiation, hazardous materials awareness, and leadership development through regular monthly training.
Qualifications
Active
Oregon DPSST Police Officer certification
or equivalent state certification.
Minimum 18 months of certified police experience.
Must meet DPSST established physical standards.
Complete background investigation, favorable driving record, psychological examination, physical examination, and pass federal drug screen (including cannabis).
Work Schedule The patrol teams operate on 3/12 and 4/10 weekly schedules with an additional 8‑hour training day each month to ensure work‑life balance.

Compensation and Pay Differentials
Step three (3) or four (4) starting placement; higher based on experience.
Potential pay differentials:
English/Spanish bilingual proficiency – 4.5%
College credits up to 5% for a bachelor’s degree
DPSST Intermediate certification – 2%
DPSST Advanced certification – 5%
Certain specialty assignments qualify for differential pay
