This is a temporary, seasonal position.******For more information about the Kauluhala Summer Academy, please visit:*** ***.*****Job Summary**Provides general assistance to various program activities in learning and instruction which are culturally grounded, nurturing, dynamic and student-led under the guidance of the classroom teacher or Program Administrator.

Provides group and independent student supervision, tutoring and coaching on study methods and techniques in alignment with program goals.

Assists the unit with clerical support as needed.**Essential Responsibilities****Instructional & Student Supervision Support*** Assists students and teachers with direct and indirect support service.

Will offer support with preparation of materials for classes, classroom instruction and basic assessment.* Supervises students in small and large group learning activities as assigned, to support the cultural growth and academic development of our haumana.

Coaches and counsels students to use proper study methods and techniques, and refers students to appropriate resources for additional assistance.

Works closely with the administration, instructional specialists and kumu to identify and provide appropriate assistance to students and teachers. Provides input on assessment of students.* Assists with supervision of students during snack, lunch, student events, huaka'i and other related classroom activities. May also provide supervision before and after school at transportation pick-up and drop-off sites and during free periods.* Assists in the processing and distributing of written progress reports as requested.**Classroom Preparation & Support*** May assist in classroom activities by assisting students and teachers with equipment and supplies.

Provides one-on-one instruction and other learning enhancement support as appropriate.* Organizes and maintains supplies and other storage areas to ensure materials are properly stocked and maintained.

Orders replacement and/or new supplies as needed.

Recommends alternatives for supplies and materials by working closely with department staff and/or Purchasing.* Assists with contacting parents as necessary.* Emulates the culture and climate established and nurtured by campus summer programs.**Position Requirements****Minimum Qualifications -** An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.* High School Diploma.* Experience working with school-aged children.* Experience managing multiple tasks and duties.* Demonstrated experience and desire to work with students.* Strong working knowledge of study skill methods and techniques.* Strong leadership skills essential to motivate and guide students.* Strong verbal skills necessary to communicate study skills methods and techniques, study skills deficiencies and attitude problems to students, staff, and parents.* Classroom management skills necessary to maintain general behavior.* Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to manage multiple assignments/priorities.* Good verbal and writing skills needed to communicate effectively with student, parents, staff, and public.* Good organizational skills required to coordinate numerous student activities* Flexibility and ability to adjust to changing environments necessary to assist wherever needed in the program.* Knowledge of computers and applications.* Knowledge of and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and Christian values.**Preferred Qualifications*** Previous experience teaching the age levels and subject areas of the specific teaching positions.* Knowledge of current instructional strategies appropriate for high/middle/elementary school students.* Knowledge of Hawaiian culture-based educational approach to learning.* Sensitivity to and appreciation for Hawaiian culture and Christian values.* Two or three years of administrative experience extremely helpful.* Valid drivers’ license.* Certification in student/school bus driving.**Physical Requirements*** Frequently sits, stands and walks. Perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.* Occasionally works outdoors, including walking on uneven ground and in outdoor weather including sun, wind and rain.* Occasionally lifts and/or carries, pushes and/or pulls objects that weigh 10-20 pounds.* Rarely twist, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.**Working Conditions*** Work is conducted in a school environment and requires work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces for off-campus huakaʻi.* Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours may be required to meet goals and objectives.* Work is intense and fast-paced.* May work in an innovation laboratory context such as Hālau Kupukupu requires flexibility and willingness for visits/observations by interested KS staff and partner stakeholders as determined by administration.**Disclaimer:** The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by incumbents assigned to this job.
