Position Overview Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., a Davey company, is seeking an environmental scientistwith one (1) year to three (3) years of experience to join our growing team in our Virginia Beach, Virginia office.
Job Duties Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments
Wetland Delineation and Stream Assessments
Chesapeake Bay Preservation Studies and Approvals
Preparation of reports, mapping, and supporting documentation
Participating in industry organizations
Inter‑department coordination and communication within WSSI
Other tasks and assistance to other departments at WSSI as needed
It is estimated that this position will consist of approximately 50% office work and 50% field work. Some projects may require overnight travel in the region.
Qualifications Required
Bachelor’s degree (or greater) in environmental science, forestry, geology or related field.
Field experience and ability to work both independently and on a team is a must.
Working knowledge of environmental regulations pertaining to §401/404 Clean Water Act, Virginia Water Protection (VWP) permit program, Virginia Tidal Wetlands Act, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act, local environmental ordinances.
Working knowledge of ASTM Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessment Standards.
Working knowledge of RCRA and CERCLA regulations and Virginia regulations.
Experience with digital mapping programs (GIS, CAD, or similar software) and useofGlobal Positioning Systems (GPS) units.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
Additional Requirements
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; candidate should demonstrate the ability to prepare documents that are technically and grammatically correct and fullyreferenced and must be able to communicate clearly with staff and clients.
Ability to lift heavy equipment and objects up to fifty (50) pounds and perform fieldwork in adverse weather conditions.
