About Spring Lake Golf Club
Nestled along the Jersey Shore, Spring Lake Golf Club boasts a storied legacy dating back to its founding in 1898. Originally laid out as a nine-hole course by Willie Norton, the club evolved into a championship 18‑hole layout following the acquisition of the Thompson farm. Esteemed architect George C. Thomas, Jr. – of the Philadelphia School – crafted the expanded course in 1911, featuring iconic holes such as the formidable 610‑yard “Hell’s Kitchen.” In 1918, legendary designer A. W. Tillinghast reshaped the layout, infusing it with sweeping fairways, artful bunkers, and enduring elegance, leaving a timeless footprint that remains in today’s course.
Over the decades, Spring Lake has hosted premier competitions—from early professional exhibitions and the Spring Lake Invitational to prestigious USGA and NJSGA championships—drawing legends like Byron Nelson, Sam Snead, and others to its fairways.
