ASSOCIATE DEAN - SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATIONS
Ithaca College's Roy H. Park School of Communications is seeking a highly-qualified candidate to serve as Associate Dean. The role is located in Ithaca, NY.
Job Overview The successful candidate will provide leadership and direction in the administrative and academic affairs of the School, coordinate the development, planning, and assessment of curricular and co‑curricular learning, facilities and technology to ensure outstanding student learning opportunities and experiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide academic and professional leadership in supporting faculty, co‑curricular advisers and the School‑designated career engagement specialist in the development and modification of curricular and co‑curricular learning opportunities; conduct benchmarking and research on communications content, new pedagogical methods, educational technologies and identify potential new degree and non‑degree offerings.
Work with faculty and chairs to prepare new degree and course proposals and curriculum modifications for undergraduate, graduate and non-credit programs; coordinate and monitor reviews through bodies such as New York State Department of Education and Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools; serve on curriculum‑related committees.
Lead assessment of curricular and co‑curricular learning opportunities, ensuring compliance with assessment standards and accreditation requirements.
Ensure compliance with policies and procedures, analyze institutional data, prepare reports, recommend policy changes, and handle confidential matters.
Assist in faculty recruitment, hiring and development; mentor and support faculty development, evaluation and promotion.
Coordinate course schedules with campus offices (Provost, Registrar, etc.) and develop budget projections.
Serve as liaison between faculty, co‑curricular advisers and technical staff to integrate courses, degree programs, workshops, facilities planning and technology purchases.
Support student success through recruitment, enrollment, retention, and academic support; liaise with Academic Support Center and Admissions/Enrollment Management.
Provide operational support for events, faculty/staff retreats and special projects; make public presentations at admissions and alumni events.
Serve on the Dean’s Office team and represent the Dean on committees; assume specific responsibilities when the Dean is absent.
Support the Dean in identifying and pursuing new funding opportunities to support faculty and student research and creative activity; administer internal grants and scholarships.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in communications or related field with a record of college teaching excellence.
Minimum 5 years of administrative experience in a higher‑education environment with supervisory responsibilities.
Demonstrated collegial leadership, ability to assess critical situations, and discretion in sensitive matters.
Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; ability to cultivate an inclusive, diverse, welcoming environment.
Experience in curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation procedures; ability to adapt to emerging trends in communications education.
Proficiency with software applications, data analysis tools, and instructional technology.
Ability to represent the School of Communications within the College and to external constituencies.
Work Environment Most work will be performed in a generally accessible, safe indoor environment; the candidate will use a personal computer and other office equipment. Travel may be required for on‑campus or off‑campus responsibilities.
