Overview The Marathon Petroleum Company is seeking a Designer/Drafter to support the Kenai Refinery located in Kenai, Alaska. The designer will update unit P&IDs, PFDs, piping isometric drawings, electrical and instrumentation drawings, instrument datasheets, and more. Responsibilities include creating construction drawings for capital and expense projects and ensuring PSM compliance. The position reports to the Area Engineering Manager and offers a 9/80 or 5/40 schedule.

Key Responsibilities

Create and update unit P&IDs, PFDs, and piping isometric drawings for fabrication and construction.

Support coordination of engineering documents and maintain design and construction documentation in electronic and physical formats.

Assist document control with indexing, filing, and managing EDMS.

Check out and check in documentation electronically in the EDMS and SharePoint.

Acquire data through stakeholder communication and site visits, including field measurements.

Support project development with drawing check‑out, revision control, and Management of Change tasks.

Facilitate SharePoint and external file share maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED (must be completed before start date).

At least 2 years of design and drafting experience in a refinery, petro‑chemical, or related industry.

Proficiency with AutoCAD.

Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, time‑management, and interpersonal skills.

Excellent computer skills, including MS Office and SharePoint.

Ability to interpret colored markings on documents.

Valid driver’s license.

Steady employment history and legal authorization to work in the U.S. without future visa sponsorship.

Must be able to work one of the available schedules (9/80 or 5/40) and perform physically demanding tasks in the refinery setting.

Travel requirement: 5% or less; able to obtain a TWIC Card.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS).

Associate’s degree in Drafting or a related field.

Drafting experience in refining or petrochemical industry.

Electrical and instrumentation drafting and design experience.

Experience with MicroStation.

Knowledge of industry codes and standards (OSHA, ANSI/ASI‑5.1, PIP, etc.).

Experience drafting instrument and electrical specifications and loop diagrams.

Experience with piping isometric drawings.
