Job Description The School of Education, Social Work, and Psychological Sciences at the University of Missouri‑Kansas City is continuously seeking qualified candidates for adjunct faculty teaching positions. The Department of Psychology and Counseling offers undergraduate coursework in psychology and graduate coursework in counseling and clinical psychology. The intent of this announcement is to identify a pool of adjunct faculty who are qualified to deliver undergraduate and graduate level courses in the Division of Counseling and Educational Psychology.

Responsibilities of UMKC Part‑time Academic Members include:

Create and maintain civil, inclusive and engaging learning environments

Deliver curriculum through high quality course instruction

Articulate clear learning objectives for students in the course

Clearly communicate expectations and course requirements

Provide high quality instruction

Engage students in active and creative learning activities

Engage students in critical thinking, problem solving, creative activity and reflection

Create course materials (e.g., rubrics, handouts) as needed to effectively deliver curriculum and assess student learning

Use technology to enhance learning

Assess student learning of course objectives

Use a variety of evaluation methods

Use the early alert system to identify students at risk of failing, when applicable (UMKC Connect)

Provide students with prompt, objective, fair feedback on their work

Assign grades and maintain student records in accordance with university policy

Adhere to and model university standards of professionalism

Be accessible to students for conferences / consultations

Engage in critical self‑reflection and professional development

Appointment Details This is a part‑time, non‑benefit position. Hours vary according to opportunity. Appointment periods are for the semester with consideration for reappointment.

Qualifications

Appropriate minimum degree for the level of class being taught

Master's degree in Psychology or a related field to teach Psychology undergraduate courses

Master's degree in Clinical or Counseling or Counseling Psychology or Psychology, or a related field, plus related experience to teach in the Counseling Masters program

Doctoral degree in Psychology to teach in the Clinical Psychology graduate program

Experience/training relevant to the content area being taught

Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to urban issues

Licensure or certification, if applicable

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience teaching at the university level

Familiarity with various online management systems (e.g., Canvas)

Anticipated Hiring Range A flat adjunct salary is determined on a per‑course basis.

Transcripts reflecting the highest degree earned and any other degree that may be relevant for the course assignment are required before final hire.

Unofficial transcripts may be submitted initially, but OFFICIAL transcripts are required for hire. The University requires that we maintain an official copy of your higher education transcripts. An official copy of the transcript showing the highest degree and any other transcript relevant to the course taught must be sent to the Office of the Dean, Attention: Katherine Hawk, School of Education, 615 E. 52nd Street, Suite 347, Kansas City, Missouri 64110. Your appointment is contingent upon verification of your degree.
