Pay range: $71,900 – $88,000 per year.
Position description: We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research associate to develop and perform x‑ray pump‑probe experiments on quantum condensed‑matter systems. The successful candidate will design, build, and operate ultrafast laser amplifier setups integrated with x‑ray instrumentation to investigate light‑induced dynamics in solids. The postdoc will collaborate closely with scientists across disciplines at Brookhaven National Laboratory and work at the Coherent Hard X‑ray Scattering (CHX) beamline of the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS‑II).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Set up an x‑ray pump‑probe system using ultrafast laser amplifiers.
Plan, perform, and analyze coherent x‑ray pump‑probe experiments.
Disseminate research results through conference presentations and publications.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
PhD in physics, materials science, physical chemistry, or related field.
Extensive experience designing, setting up, and conducting condensed‑matter experiments using ultrafast laser systems.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience in synchrotron‑based experiments.
Experience in coherent x‑rays or resonant x‑ray scattering.
Understanding of light‑matter interactions in condensed‑matter systems.
Additional Information
Work arrangement: On‑site.
Candidates must have received a PhD by the commencement of employment.
Post‑doctoral research associate appointments may not exceed 5 years of post‑doctoral or R&D experience, excluding certain life events.
