Position Overview English Teacher – Middle / High School

Dates:

Start 08/10/2026, 184 days, 1.0 FTE.

Location:

Multiple sites (certificated only); Site to be determined.

Responsibilities

Teach English incorporating language skills, writing skills, and critical learning procedures.

Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter as specified in state laws, regulations and District policies.

Develop clear and appropriate lesson plans and identify instructional materials.

Select, design and organize objectives, strategies, and materials for teaching English, incorporating research findings in the instructional program.

Provide individualized and small group instruction (as necessary) to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. Teach at various levels, including advanced placement courses. Determine appropriate pace related to students’ abilities. Explain material to students and parents. Differentiate instruction and work with students & teachers in inclusive settings.

Establish & maintain standards of behavior in the classroom and throughout the school to achieve a positive learning atmosphere.

Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep records, prepare student progress reports, and provide accurate feedback to students and parents.

Use data to improve learning and instruction process.

Create and maintain an environment fostering student creativity, critical thinking, academic achievement and lifelong skills.

Show competence in using new technology and application packages.

Interact daily in person with school staff, possessing interpersonal skills and cooperative attitudes.

Consistently attend; convey patient attitude toward students, parents, staff, community.

Maintain confidentiality of student grades, progress, etc.

Student Management

Maximize opportunities for student success by creating positive mentoring and working relationships with students and colleagues.

Create a classroom environment reflective of the 21st-century skills and the various student individual needs.

Be a role-model for students regarding lifelong learning and professional behavior.

Establish and implement a classroom discipline policy to articulate and maintain standards of expected pupil behavior.

Provide additional instruction as required if students need support in academic skill development.

Professional Duties

Maintain positive staff relations; work closely with the site principal to collaborate in school leadership.

Cooperate with other professional staff members to identify student needs and develop assessments.

Participate in faculty committees, meetings and other faculty-sponsored programs.

Demonstrate regular and timely attendance.

Engage with community and business partners to support curriculum development and student projects.

Attend and participate in required in-service activities.

Follow district promotion policy and maintain appropriate records.

Follow District and School policies.

Qualifications

Valid California teaching credential with Authorization to teach English in grades 7‑12.

CLAD/BCLAD/EL Authorization (Emergency permits not accepted).

At least a Bachelor’s degree.

Relevant teaching experience (as mandated by the state and accepted by the school district).

Personal qualities: resourceful, innovative, helpful, diligent, persistent; willingness to work with colleagues and students.

Preferred: Valid California driver’s license; prior teaching experience.

Benefits & Salary Annual entry-level salary placed from $60,544 to $100,773 for full‑time position; salary prorated based on start date, FTE, and prior experience. Health benefits available 2025‑2026; plans and rates to be updated in Spring 2026. Other benefits per district schedule.
