Position Overview: The Teacher plans, designs, implements, and assesses an instructional program in an elementary environment that guides and encourages a diverse group of students at all levels to develop and fulfill their academic potential. They design learning experiences, monitor student progress, present information to parents, develop assessments, create and reinforce classroom expectations, collaborate with school administration to prepare students for assessments, and manage students outside the classroom.
Roles And Responsibilities
Establish a safe and supportive environment that enables student agency and reflection.
Design and implement authentic, engaging learning experiences using the Virginia Standards of Learning, LCPS curriculum, and appropriate strategies.
Personalize instruction based upon the needs of students.
Assess student growth relative to educational goals, objectives, and outcomes.
Adhere to LCPS Assessment and Grading policy and guidelines.
Monitor and support student behavior in instructional settings and throughout the school.
Collaborate with colleagues, students, parents, and the community to promote learning.
Direct teacher assistants, student teachers, and volunteers as needed.
Participate in the school's professional learning community to deepen curriculum, content, and assessment understanding.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.
Holds or eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in an appropriate subject area.
Demonstrated knowledge of elementary content, curriculum, and effective teaching methodology.
Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents.
Demonstrated skill in oral and written communication; excellent interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements Employee regularly talks, expresses or exchanges ideas verbally. Requires normal cognitive abilities, ability to learn, recall and apply policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining stationary for long periods. May lift up to 25 pounds occasionally, and sometimes frequently or constantly move objects.
