Overview
Clackamas Community College (CCC) seeks to hire a College Safety Officer (Part-Time). This is a part-time, classified, non-union, non-exempt, and non-benefits-eligible position. CCC values diversity and welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds.
Purpose of Position Perform unarmed patrol of college-owned properties on foot, by bicycle, and in vehicles to enforce campus safety rules and policies. Issue warnings or citations for violations, including physical arrest as required. Conduct security checks for suspicious persons or vehicles.
Essential Job Functions
Conduct patrols of college-owned properties on foot, bicycle, or in vehicles to enforce safety rules and policies and maintain a safe environment.
Provide non-enforcement assistance to community members (directions, jump-starts, locking/unlocking rooms, escorts, safety-related assistance).
Respond to campus calls for service (major crimes, civil complaints, thefts, assaults, accidents, medical emergencies) and take appropriate action within policy on scene.
Investigate incidents (criminal, policy, conduct, Title IX, threat assessment), collect evidence, interview involved individuals, and document using a police-style format.
Maintain relationships with local law enforcement and assist as requested.
Perform transfers between campuses.
Act as first responder in major incidents, assess needs, and assist (e.g., rescue, first aid, evacuation coordination) as per the Emergency Operations Plan.
Utilize crisis intervention skills to interact safely with individuals in mental health crises, maintaining discretion and empathy.
Assist Law Enforcement and Fire Department personnel as requested during incidents or crises.
Maintain knowledge of CCC policies, procedures, and Oregon statutes relevant to safety.
Perform ancillary duties as assigned (examples: Building Emergency Response Team Coordinator, College Motor Pool Program Coordinator, Video System Coordinator).
Committee, Training and Skills
Complete Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training and maintain related knowledge.
Maintain ability to de-escalate, understand use-of-force guidelines, and employ defensible defensive tactics.
Maintain state certifications and CPR/First Aid/AED, and complete regular departmental training in defensive tactics, use of force, community policing, and DEI topics.
Maintain personal training and credential records.
Community Outreach and Threat Assessment
Provide presence at community outreach events and assist CARE team with students of concern as needed.
Monitor real-time campus activity during major events and communicate timely warnings when necessary.
Assist with protective/restraining orders, assess threat level, and coordinate with Campus Resource Officer for rapid intervention with law enforcement when needed.
General Job Functions
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, other agencies, and the public.
Perform other duties within the scope of the classification and participate in college committees as requested.
Attend training and meetings, and may require travel.
Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner and protect student confidentiality under FERPA.
Required Qualifications
Associate's degree in a related field and 2 years of directly related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Advanced knowledge of security standards, investigative methods and report writing; knowledge of applicable laws related to safety and law enforcement; familiarity with community college environments.
Special Requirements or Licenses
Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record in the State of Oregon.
At least 21 years of age and must meet DPSST certification standards.
Private unarmed security certification within six months of appointment and ability to maintain it.
Subject to scheduled and random drug tests, including reasonable suspicion testing.
