About the Role The Infant and Toddler Teacher promotes and develops infants and toddlers in social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and linguistic growth. They ensure learning environments are nurturing spaces that support the development of all children, provide responsive caregiving, and maintain a well‑organized classroom. They build strong relationships with families, supporting parent‑child relationships that are key to children’s healthy development, school readiness, and well‑being.
About You You are a self‑motivated and dedicated person excited to help infants, toddlers, and families grow. You are personable, energetic, and empathetic, capable of managing multiple staff, projects, and priorities while meeting internal goals and compliance with Head Start Performance Standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Child Development Associate (CDA) credentialed in Infant and Toddler (current) or Associate Degree and/or other qualifying education in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or similar.
Basic computer skills.
Must have a valid driver’s license, personal vehicle, and liability insurance. In states where public transportation is used, a valid state ID is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and/or other qualifying education in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or similar.
Minimum two (2) years of recent, paid, and successful experience working in a childcare or preschool setting.
Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and local state childcare licensing requirements.
Bilingual (English and Spanish).
What You’ll Be Doing
Teaching and promoting a learning environment for infants and toddlers in accordance with approved curriculum and performance standards.
Establishing and maintaining a healthy and safe indoor and outdoor environment.
Conducting daily playground health and safety monitoring.
Coordinating and participating in daily playground set‑up and clean‑up.
Detecting and reporting signs of illness, discomfort, or unusual behavior to managers or family advocate.
Following organizational policy for child health and safety incidents and mandated reporting of suspected child abuse/neglect.
Keeping classrooms, storage areas, and office spaces neat and clutter free.
Following all health and safety policies and procedures.
Reporting safety hazards and maintaining direct supervision of all children.
Creating a pleasant, inviting atmosphere that respects ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Participating in dual supervision and coordinated coaching through educational coaches and managers.
Practicing standards of conduct and guidance techniques defined in the discipline policy and procedures.
Following time and attendance policies.
Prohibiting cell phone use in the classroom per state licensing standards.
Curriculum / Assessment / Teaching and Learning Environment
Implementation of the curriculum and teaching experience to meet fidelity.
Ensuring a nurturing environment that facilitates maximum social and emotional development.
Maintaining data management system requirements for documenting and tracking data.
Parent, Family, & Community Engagement
Providing an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parental engagement, including modeling appropriate behavior and positive guidance techniques.
Other Tasks and Responsibilities
Assisting with food service and other classroom needs as requested.
Attending meetings, trainings, and appropriate professional development activities.
Assuring general maintenance and security of the facility and assisting with inventory of equipment and supplies.
Assisting with classroom laundry, cleanup, sanitization, and overall organization.
Supporting other classroom assignments, coverage, and special assignments or needs.
Completing other related activities and duties as assigned.
Physical Demands Ability to see at normal distance, hear normal conversations, and use hands and fingers to fill out required forms. Ability to lift infants and toddlers weighing up to forty (40) pounds, twenty (20) pounds overhead, and forty (40) pounds from waist to shoulder; occasional lifting of fifty (50) pounds is required and must be able to push/pull up to fifty (50) pounds horizontally. Ability to sit on the floor, bend at the waist, kneel, and/or stoop 75% of the time. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
