Scope of Position This position assists experienced technicians under supervision, conducting preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs of wind turbines, photovoltaic power plants and energy storage systems. The technician learns and applies EDF Core values: safety, teamwork, respect, passion, transparency, good sense, and accountability.
Salary Range $22.00 – $37.00 per hour. Target range: $XX.00 – $XX.00 per hour. Salary determined by internal equity, experience, skills and location.
Required Training Mandatory five‑week training and certification course at the start of employment, held in Albert Lea, MN. Travel, accommodation and expenses will be provided.
Responsibilities 80% – In the field:
Performs preventive maintenance on wind turbines, utility‑scale photovoltaic power plants, and storage systems.
Under supervision, performs troubleshooting, repairs, and upgrades/revisions to a broad range of equipment in the renewable industry.
Completes Job Safety Assessments, applies LOTO plans & procedures, identifies and reports safety hazards on the jobsite, and attends safety meetings.
Participates in the 24‑hour/weekly “On Call” rotation and works outside business hours when needed.
Attends required safety and technical training.
15% – Administrative duties: document completed jobs, implement supply orders, complete daily work orders, time tracking and other required paperwork for each project/assignment.
5% – Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
2 to 4 years of experience in renewable energy or a similar discipline.
Must meet qualified electrical worker standards.
Required Certifications
OSHA 10 or equivalent certification.
Basic Safety Training (BST) under Global Wind Organization.
Basic Technical Training (BTT) under Global Wind Organization.
Control of Hazardous Energies (CoHE) under Global Wind Organization.
Slinger and Signaler certification under Global Wind Organization.
NFPA 70E and NFPA 70B or equivalent certification.
Skills & Knowledge
Valid current driver’s license and ability to operate motor vehicles.
Basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic components of wind turbines, photovoltaic power and energy storage systems.
Familiar with CSA Z462 / NFPA 70E and able to identify appropriate PPE.
Basic understanding of schematics and use of a multi‑meter.
Basic computer knowledge.
Follow verbal and written instructions.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to understand, read, write and speak clearly in English.
Physical Requirements
Regularly lift/move up to 35 lb and frequently up to 50 lb.
Stand, crouch, walk, and work for extended periods.
Operate company vehicles on site and on public roads.
Climb ladders, stairs and structures to heights more than 91 m (300 ft).
Work at heights, including climbing up and descending towers, entering nacelles and hubs at extreme heights.
Work in electrical‑mechanical environment.
Climb stairs, ladders and structures for heights up to 91 m.
Operate in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain).
Working Conditions
Exposed to extreme weather (heat, cold, wind, rain).
High voltage and stored energy.
Moving mechanical parts and vibration.
Confined spaces.
Moderate noise levels.
