Position Overview
As a Student Financial Services Specialist at Galen College of Nursing, you will provide information, guidance, and assistance regarding various types of financial assistance, including federal financial aid, state aid, workforce agencies, employer payments, VA benefits, to facilitate enrollment, persistence, and completion of students, consistent with the College's mission. Key Responsibilities
Assist and guide active students throughout their program, including contacting current students about missing or incomplete documents. Review financial aid applications for accuracy and ensure eligible aid is packaged and disbursed in a timely manner. Support students in managing additional financing options, including state aid, workforce agencies, employer payments, VA benefits. Create payment arrangements on term balances to support campus cash collections. Track and document completion of exit counseling at program end, following up with students as necessary. Provide continued support and education to students and their parents on topics related to Financial Aid, including Title IV Federal Financial Aid, eligibility, financial literacy, and loan repayment. Thoroughly document student communication in the student information system, including email, phone calls, text messages, and meetings. Assist in other phases of financial aid, enrollment, and student support as necessary. Maintain confidentiality of students and student information. Follow guidelines by regulatory bodies such as FERPA, Department of Education, other Galen accrediting agencies, federal, state and local laws. Maintain current knowledge of college policies and processes and relevant accreditation and regulatory requirements. Attend financial aid training, workshops and seminars as necessary or requested by the College. Other duties as assigned. Position Requirements
Education: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree. Equivalent experience in lieu of a degree will be considered. Experience: Experience working with Federal Financial Aid programs preferred, but not required. Experience working with customer financial accounts preferred, but not required. Skills: Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills; must possess excellent customer service skills; strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects while meeting deadlines; ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times; must be a team player by assisting and encouraging other Galen employees. Special Qualifications: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products; must be able to secure access to all Department of Education websites, including NSL, COD, CPS, etc.; candidates should have no prior history of student loan default. Physical/Mental Demands & Work Environment: Must be able to sit at a computer desk for eight hours each day; must be available to work flexible schedule to include some evenings and occasional weekends.
