Position Overview We are seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and experienced in-person School Social Worker to join our team on a contract basis in Oakland County. As a School Social Worker, you will be a vital link between the school, home, and community to support students' academic and social success. You will provide direct services, as well as consultation, to help students and families navigate challenges and access resources. This role is critical in developing a healthy school climate and providing interventions that address barriers to learning.

In person only Must reside within 45 minutes of the school district Licensed Master's Social Worker with full or temporary School Social Work approval by the State of Michigan This position is for a School Social Worker who conducts Functional Assessments and creates positive Behavior Support Plans for students. They analyze behavioral data to improve these plans, train classroom staff on implementation, and promote student independence. The role also involves accurate documentation, serving on the Crisis Team, and connecting students with community resources.

The candidate must be a Licensed Master's Social Worker with Michigan School Social Work approval. Prior experience creating Functional Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans is required, and experience with developmental disabilities is preferred. Essential skills include knowledge of community resources, strong analytical and report-writing abilities, and the capacity to build effective relationships with staff, students, and families.

Compensation

$55 - $60 per hour, commensurate with experience and credentials.

Responsibilities

Conduct psychosocial assessments and provide individual and group counseling to students.

Develop and implement intervention strategies to address academic and behavioral concerns.

Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to create supportive learning plans.

Participate in IEP (Individualized Education Program) and 504 Plan meetings, providing clinical insight and recommendations.

Provide crisis intervention services and risk assessments.

Connect students and families with community resources and social services.

Advocate for students' needs and promote a school culture of equity and inclusion.

Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Address issues such as truancy, bullying, mental health, and substance abuse through school-wide initiatives and targeted support.

Qualifications

MSDE required

Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a CSWE-accredited program.

Valid Michigan licensure as one of the following is required:

Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or

Licensed Certified Social Worker - Clinical (LCSW-C)

Prefer experience working as a Social Worker in a school or pediatric setting.

Prefer knowledge of Michigan COMAR regulations and federal laws (IDEA, Section 504) governing special education.

Strong assessment, counseling, and case management skills.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.

Commitment to cultural competence and serving a diverse student population.

Ability to work independently, manage a caseload effectively, and adapt to the changing needs of a school environment.

School systems typically hire social workers with either license, with the LCSW-C often being preferred for its ability to provide unsupervised clinical diagnoses and treatment.
