Student Success Coach
Responsible for proactive individualized involvement in driving students’ success through a case‑management approach. This position will coordinate and facilitate the provision of resources to empower students to stay in school and achieve success. The Student Success Coach will utilize all forms of communication to encourage students, direct them to appropriate resources, walk them through critical processes, and track their outcomes. The role contributes to the college’s outreach efforts by re‑engaging individuals who have stopped out of school and helping them return to finish their degree, thereby supporting student retention and completion strategies within the assigned caseload.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Provide information and assistance to returning and current students and their families regarding admission and financial aid application procedures. • Receive and process documents to complete the admissions and registration process for a defined caseload of students. • Counsel students in the general student population and special populations, including Veterans, athletes, grant‑initiative cohorts, and international students. • Assist with program planning, course selection, schedule changes, transferability, and course withdrawals. • Prepare and deliver updated reports on the special‑population caseload to internal student services administration and external stakeholders as per MOU agreements on file. • Develop, implement, maintain, and evaluate a system to increase student persistence. • Solve issues related to the enrollment process, review students’ enrollment requirements and degree audits. • Assist students with identifying college and community resources that will support their career goals. • Collaborate with faculty throughout the student’s enrollment to ensure all courses align with the degree plan and that the student is advancing toward graduation at an appropriate pace, using the college’s retention CRM system and keeping detailed advising notes. • Develop and facilitate workshops and presentations using PowerPoint and other media solutions. • Maintain awareness of best practices, emerging trends, and new legislation relating to admissions, records, advising, testing, and financial aid. • Evaluate transcripts from previous high schools, colleges, and universities; compute and check GPA, verify class standing, and review degree plans for completeness and accuracy. • Correspond with officials of high schools and institutions of higher education concerning course credit and content comparability. • Evaluate residency status and assign the appropriate residency classification; provide information regarding residency to students, staff, and the college community. • Ensure compliance with SEVIS and other applicable immigration regulations. • Verify and certify reports, files, enrollment status, records, and applications within FERPA guidelines and assist in preparation of semester grade transcripts, degree plans, diplomas, and certificates. • Perform add/drops, withdrawals, and grade changes as required. • Assist with preparation and production of new student orientation and college commencement exercises. • Assess student needs, goals, interests, and prior academic experiences to guide students in designing an academic and career plan. • Provide guidance in course selection in keeping with the student’s career plans and academic status. • Work closely with college faculty to monitor academic progress of students. • Maintain current knowledge of all degree and certificate programs. • Attend the workplace regularly, report to work punctually, and follow a work schedule to meet demands. • Work hours may include evenings, holidays, or weekends depending on deadlines or special events. • Complete duties and responsibilities in compliance with college standards, policies, and guidelines. • Use interpersonal skills and sound judgment to determine how tasks are completed between coworkers, the supervisory chain, faculty, staff, students, and customers. • Complete all required training and professional development sessions sponsored by Texas Southmost College. • Support the values and institutional goals as defined in the college’s strategic plan. • Participate in the development, monitoring, and assessment of appropriate outcomes, and assist in developing action plans for improvement. • Participate in the process for systematic review and evaluation per the institutional effectiveness model adopted by the college. • Promote positive morale and teamwork within the department and provide exceptional customer service to students, faculty, and community. • Serve on committees as appropriate and as appointed by the supervisor. • Perform other duties as assigned.
