Job Description The Bergstrom Real Estate Center is located within the Warrington College of Business at the University of Florida. The Center supports the real estate educational programs, students, and faculty of the College through its member activities, scholarship and endowment funds, research, and sponsored industry events. The Writer/Copy Editor, under the direction of the Research Director, will contribute to the content published by the Center and oversee the contribution from other writers. This person will collaborate on article topics, guide contributing authors, write some articles, and edit completed works. This position contributes communication skills to meet the goals of the Center’s constituents, including students, real estate professionals, faculty, and staff.
Manage publication content development
Work with the Research Director to identify, develop, and assign topics
Coordinate article production to meet deadlines
Support and oversee the activities of student writers
Manage content delivery to the publication designer
Write articles for print and online delivery
Work with Research Director to write technical reports
Write feature and departmental articles for Due Diligence magazine
Participate in the development of new digital designs
Contribute to online presence through web content, news posts, social media, and info‑graphic
Review and edit content prior to publication
Help students construct well‑organized articles
Edit article submissions for content, structure, and style
Work with publication designer to ensure error‑free final products
Communicate research findings
Assist student instruction on writing and communications techniques
Share results at Bergstrom Center events
Present findings to the real estate industry
This position works independently and as a team member on major projects agreed upon with the Research Director and in general support of the Center. The individual in this position is expected to perform on own initiative, given limited direction. The position reports to the Research Director and may receive direction from the Center’s Executive Director. The Writer/Copy Editor may oversee student and staff activity on specific projects but will not have evaluation responsibilities.
Supervision of this position will be daily interaction and occasional status meetings with verbal or written instructions as needed.
Normal work schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Sometimes, hours will vary during Center events and as needed to complete time‑sensitive projects.
There also may be occasional travel to meet Bergstrom Center goals as needed.
Expected Salary: $50k to $60k salary range; based on experience.
Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and six years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Reporting, Editing, or Journalism experience
Working knowledge of MicroSoft Office products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Experience with web design, social media, or info‑graphics (such as Tableau)
Interest in the business and real estate fields
Advanced degrees and professional designations
