Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Two (2) years of full-time related research experience.
Experience with at-sea data collection, zooplankton sampling, or underwater acoustics.
Programming experience in R, Matlab, Python, or other statistical languages.
Must have and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License; have a motor vehicle record free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors’ Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Marine Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Fisheries Science, Oceanography, Acoustics, or a related field.
Knowledge of hand tools and machine / wood shop tools.
Experience analyzing acoustic backscatter data.
Experience with moored instruments.
Experience using advanced statistics or other quantitative analyses.
Scientific diving experience.
Brief Description of Duties The Senior Research Support Specialist will conduct research under the supervision of Dr. Joseph Warren as part of a dynamic team in the Warren Laboratory located on Stony Brook’s Southampton Campus. The incumbent will lead research cruises to collect data sets and examine spatial and temporal patterns in zooplankton abundance and distribution, studying copepods and other organisms in Southern New England, New York, and other waters. The successful incumbent will have strong written and oral communication skills.
Responsibilities Responsibilities will include:
On Shore Duties
Organize and prepare for research cruises
Prepare reports and other project documentation
Work collaboratively with project and lab members on project objectives.
Build, maintain, repair at-sea and deployed platforms.
Process and analyze net tow, acoustic backscatter, and other data sets.
Participate in lab meetings and training sessions.
Prepare manuscripts or manuscript components.
Off Shore Duties
Participate in and lead research cruises
Other duties as assigned.
Special Notes The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines, and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
