Staff Archaeologist
Thompson Engineering is seeking a Staff Archaeologist to support archaeological investigations, laboratory analysis, and reporting efforts across the southeastern United States. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of regional cultural heritage.
Responsibilities
Work independently and collaboratively with the Principal Archaeologist to prepare high-quality technical reports
Prepare project-related materials (documents, photographs, artifacts, and digital records) for long-term curation
Assist field archaeologists as needed during field investigations
Conduct laboratory analysis of archaeological artifacts, including classification, analysis, and preservation using established methodologies
Establish and maintain a type/reference collection of prehistoric and historic artifacts common to regional archaeological sites
Maintain the archaeological site database (State Site Files), including submitting corrections and updates to previously recorded sites
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field; Master's degree preferred
Proven experience as an Archaeologist or in a similar professional role
Proficiency with archaeological field and laboratory tools and equipment
Strong knowledge of archaeological principles, theories, methods, and practices
Experience conducting archaeological artifact analysis
Familiarity with cultural heritage legislation and compliance requirements
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
Experience in southeastern archaeology required or strongly preferred
