POSITION SPECIFICS
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering, in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences is seeking a postdoctoral scholar. FINAL CANDIDATE WILL:
Lead experimental efforts to design, synthesize, evaluate, and model bioactive glasses. In addition to conducting advanced research, the role involves supervising undergraduate researchers, coordinating collaborative projects with internal partners, and contributing to proposal development. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Synthesize and characterize bioactive glass compositions using XRD, DSC, NMR, SEM, FTIR, ICP, and DLS. Conduct acellular in vitro studies in simulated body fluid and monitor dissolution/degradation behavior. Perform cytotoxicity screenings in collaboration with research partners. Evaluate antibacterial activity in collaboration with research partners. Supervise undergraduate students and contribute to interdisciplinary collaborations. Assist in drafting competitive funding proposals and patent applications. QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a Ph.D. in:
Materials Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field. Should have experience in:
Glass science, bioactive materials, or biomaterials characterization. Hands‑on experience with techniques such as XRD, DSC, NMR, SEM, FTIR, ICP, and simulation tools. Strong record of peer‑reviewed publications. Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to mentor students and collaborate across disciplines. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with bioactive glasses and computational simulation. BACKGROUND CHECKS / CLEARANCES
