Offer Description Project title: Study of redox stress in Marfan syndrome aortopathy.
Area of knowledge: Life sciences
Research project: to evaluate the impact of redox stress in the onset and progression of aortopathy in a mouse model of Marfan syndrome. To carry out this project it will be necessary to generate a mix mouse model with Marfan syndrome expression the Keap1-Nrf2 indicator (transgenic mouse model named OKD48). The candidate will evaluate the aortic aneurysm progression in the mixed transgenic mouse visualizing the generation/reduction of redox stress after the administration of a variety of pro- and antioxidants.
Tasks: to perform cardiac and vascular echocardiography (aorta), histopathological study of the aorta and the heart, biochemical study of intracellular signalling, differential genetic expression of oxidative stress markers, control Marfan and OKD48 mouse colonies; surgery for extraction of various organs.
The candidate will join the lab of Gustavo Egea (Vascular Cell Biology Lab), which is currently comprised of 1 senior researcher, 1 lab technician, 1 postdoctoral researcher and 2 bachelor and Master students. The lab is localized to the Department of Biomedical Sciences (Biomedicina) Campus Clinic of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona.
Hold a BSc/MSc in Biological Sciences and Master in some area of Biomedical Sciences being currently admitted in Doctorate Programme of Catalonian Universities.
Specific Requirements
Experience in: (i) imaging techniques (microscopy, echocardiography and immunohistochemistry), (ii) biochemical and molecular techniques (western blot, immunoprecipitation, qRT-PCR), (iii) cell culture ( iv) manipulation of experimental animals (preferentially mouse), (v) knowledge bibliographic research and statistical analysis

Eligibility criteria
Grade point average of the academic transcripts from the applicant's bachelor's or master's degree studies (or 1st and 2nd cycle): up to 5 points out of a total of 10.
Curricular merits: up to 1 point out of a total of 10 in accordance with the specific criteria listed in Annex 1.
Suitability for the tasks to be performed within the framework of the research project or research support position to which the successful candidate will be attached: up to 4 points out of a total of 10.
Selection process
The specific committee will agree upon an award proposal and draw up a prioritized shortlist of candidates who have achieved a minimum of five pointsor declare the call for applications null and void if none of the applicants reach the minimum score.
The award proposal will be published in the UB's electronic office and must include the total scores of the candidates that have received a total of at least five points.
