Adjunct Instructor, English – Wake Technical Community College
Wake Technical Community College is seeking to expand its pool of part‑time faculty to teach English classes. Openings may not be available at this time; however, after a review of qualifications, applicants may be contacted in the future. Adjunct faculty positions provide quality, effective instruction in assigned courses on a part‑time, temporary basis.
Essential Responsibilities
Instruct and guide the class in an efficient and effective manner.
Maintain accurate records of student work and attendance.
Prepare thoroughly for each instructional hour.
Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.
Grade and return student work in a timely manner.
Counsel students regarding their grades and progress in the course.
Construct classroom materials that support the goals of the course.
Design curriculum and a schedule of instruction.
Use assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching.
Maintain communication with instructors from other divisions to keep courses up‑to‑date and appropriate.
Remain up‑to‑date on technology and methods of teaching with technology.
Attend professional development opportunities when possible.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Able to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning.
Be innovative, creative, and motivated.
Ability to exhibit good interpersonal skills and work well with others.
Able to maintain records accurately and be able to meet deadlines consistently.
Good organizational skills.
Knowledge of and facility with technology and software including computers and web-based resources such as Blackboard.
Able to perform normal duties with minimal supervision.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Demonstrates resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sincere interest in helping students reach their maximum potential.
Requirements
Master's degree in English or a Master's degree in a related field with 18 graduate semester hours in English.
Preferences
Two years of post‑secondary teaching experience.
Community college teaching experience.
