Position Summary The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is looking for full‑time Next Step Advisers for the Carolina College Advising Corps to support high school students across the state. The Corps helps low‑income, first‑generation students explore and pursue postsecondary pathways through personalized, high‑quality advising. By recruiting graduates who are connected to and committed to North Carolina, the Corps creates pathways for them to contribute to the University’s mission of enriching the lives of the people in our state.
Key Responsibilities
Assist students with exploring a full range of postsecondary opportunities including career pathways, military service, and workforce development.
Support student services departments at partner schools to develop and implement a strategic plan to reach out to students and their parents.
Help students with college, scholarship, and financial aid applications.
Work to increase the college‑going culture through one‑to‑one work, group presentations, and coordinating whole school events.
Lead campus visits, career exploration activities, and planning sessions that prepare students for college, career, or military pathways.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Relevant post‑baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent). Candidates with a relevant bachelor’s degree and three or more years of relevant experience may be considered.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Strong interpersonal, communication, organization, and analytical skills.
Critical thinking, sound judgment, creativity, and a passion to help students overcome obstacles and realize their college‑going potential.
Strong writing, public speaking, and presentation skills.
Ability to work professionally and courteously with both students and adults.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience working with students.
