We are seeking an experienced
Technical Expert
to strengthen our support function in Europe for Paperboard products. You will work closely with customers (printers, packagers, converters), diagnose and resolve quality or machine-line challenges, provide hands‑on technical guidance, and collaborate internally to continuously improve board specifications and performance.
Receive, log, and investigate
customer quality claims
related to paperboard and paper, including print defects, board issues, or packaging performance concerns. Collect samples, perform measurements, gather data, and document findings clearly and professionally.
Analyse
printability, board, converting, and packaging end‑use issues and collaborate with internal teams in production, quality, and engineering to identify root causes and define corrective and preventive actions.
Act as a
technical advisor
to printers, converters, and packagers regarding optimal printing process set‑up, including ink/coat interaction, surface behaviour, grammage, caliper, gloss, and substrate performance. Provide practical guidance to improve print quality and reduce waste.
Support customers with machine set‑up and runnability on operations such as
die‑cutting, folding, gluing, embossing, forming, and filling . Review equipment parameters, transitions, and board behaviour to recommend optimisations.
Collaborate with mills, R&D, engineering, and supply chain teams to
refine and optimise board specifications—such as coatings, construction, moisture, and stiffness —to enhance print and packaging performance.
Develop and deliver
technical training , best‑practice guidelines, and troubleshooting documentation for both internal teams and customer technical personnel.
Track and analyse KPIs
including quality claim volume, waste/defect rates, machine downtime caused by substrate issues, and the effectiveness of corrective actions. Recommend continuous improvement initiatives.
Visit customer locations
for audits, machine walk‑downs, diagnostics, and
technical troubleshooting . Provide both remote and on‑site support.
Frequent domestic and international travel is required in this role.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration Work closely with Sales, Customer Service, Quality, Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain teams to ensure integrated technical support and a unified approach to customer satisfaction.
Required Qualifications Must‑Have Background
Technical diploma or degree in
Paper Technology, Packaging Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Print/Packaging Engineering , or related field.
5–7 years of experience
in Quality Control in a
paper/board mill
or
Technical support in board production
or
QC/Technical role in a
cardboard packaging printing house .
Hands‑on experience in a
paper/board mill
or
converting/packaging printing environment
(ideally in Europe).
Strong knowledge of board quality, print processes, and packaging machine set‑up.
Nice to Have
Deep understanding of substrate properties (grammage, caliper, stiffness, coatings, moisture, hold‑up) and how they interact with Printing (Offset / gravure / flexo) and packaging converting machines (die‑cutting, folding, gluing, form‑fill‑seal)
Experience supporting multiple customer sites and troubleshooting complex print/packaging operations.
