About the School Challenge Preparatory Charter School, founded in 2010, serves over 1,200 scholars in Far Rockaway, Queens. Our mission is to prepare students from the greater Far Rockaway community to excel academically and achieve their career aspirations.
Role Overview The Earth Science Teacher reports to the Principal and is responsible for delivering instruction in geology, nature, the environment, meteorology, oceans, and related subjects. The role requires developing engaging lesson plans, conducting laboratory experiments, and guiding students through the study of Earth Science.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Develop daily lessons aligned with the CPCS curriculum.
Design, test, and supervise laboratory experiments.
Ensure student safety and adherence to laboratory rules.
Assign and evaluate coursework, submit grades, and maintain communication with parents.
Prepare students for state exams and maintain academic standards.
Maintain accurate attendance, participation, and assessment records.
Plan and supervise at least one field trip per school year.
Attend parent‑teacher conferences and provide detailed evaluations.
Assist with demonstrations and student supervision during experiments.
Evaluate student performance using observation, performance‑based tasks, or standard tests.
Establish classroom and lab rules and uphold high academic and behavioral expectations.
Participate in coaching, professional development, and school programming.
Qualifications & Competencies
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
NYS certification in the appropriate content area.
Preferred dual licensing (content area and ESL or Special Education).
At least 2 years teaching experience in an urban setting preferred.
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
Ability to use data to drive instruction.
Committed to teaching in underserved areas and closing the achievement gap.
Growth mindset and willingness to receive feedback.
Benefits
Competitive salary ($62,000 – $95,000 per year).
Paid time off.
403(b) plan with a 3% match.

Work Year & Site This is a full‑time, twelve‑month position. School sites: 1279 Redfern Avenue (K‑1), 710 Hartman Lane (2‑5), 1520 Central Avenue (6‑12).
