RIE , a leading metal finishing company located in
Dubuque, IA , is seeking a skilled and experienced
Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist . This position plays a critical role in advancing our current and future EHS programs across three locations while ensuring full compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate will be adept at leading cross‑functional projects, collaborating with teams at all levels, and demonstrating strong analytical, critical‑thinking, and interpersonal skills.
Minimum Qualifications To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
Bachelor's degree in
Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry , or a related field
and
a minimum of
7 years of experience
in a manufacturing environment;
or
An environmental certification
and
at least
10 years of experience
in a manufacturing environment
Ability to travel to other facilities located in MN and IA. Approximately 25%-35% depending on business needs
Prior experience in
metal finishing, chemical processing , or a related industry is preferred
Key Responsibilities Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
Managing environmental permits, including
air emissions, wastewater discharge, stormwater , and
hazardous waste
Preparing and submitting required environmental reports such as
Tier II ,
TRI ,
RCRA Biennial ,
NPDES , and
air emissions inventories
Coordinating and overseeing
sampling, monitoring, and testing
activities for air, water, and waste streams
Ensuring proper
hazardous waste management , including labeling, storage, transportation, and disposal in accordance with
RCRA
and
DOT
regulations
Leading environmental incident investigations and ensuring timely and effective corrective and preventive actions
Conducting or supporting
safety inspections ,
risk assessments , and
incident investigations
Assisting with and delivering employee training on environmental and safety topics such as hazardous waste handling, spill prevention, and emergency response
Developing, tracking, and analyzing key environmental metrics and performance indicators to identify trends and improvement opportunities
Providing environmental expertise for
sustainability initiatives, pollution prevention efforts , and
process improvement projects
