UNM Medical Group, Inc. is hiring for a Counselor Social Worker II to join our Truman Health Services Clinic.

This opportunity is a part-time (0.5FTE, 20 hours a week) day shift (Monday–Friday 8 am–5 pm) opening at our Albuquerque-based clinic.

Sign‑on Bonus and Relocation Assistance available.

Minimum $65,557–Midpoint $81,936.

Salary is determined based on years of total relevant experience.

Salary is based on 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week); less than 40 hours per week will be prorated and adjusted to the appropriate FTE.

About This Opportunity Our multidisciplinary behavioral health team provides integrated care to primary‑care patients. Providers participate in daily huddles, consult with primary‑care staff, and deliver triage, brief assessment, and intervention services. We also provide targeted individual and group psychotherapy for patients ages 13+. The ideal candidate will be flexible, independent, have strong interpersonal skills, and be open to learning and collaborating. This position works at THS' Albuquerque-based outpatient clinic during regular business hours (Monday‑Friday 8 am‑5 pm).

Summary Provides, oversees, and/or administers a wide range of psychosocial evaluation/assessment, diagnostic, counseling therapy, crisis intervention, and/or case‑management services in a high‑intensity clinical environment requiring a high degree of independent decision‑making and program administration. Leads and trains lower‑level counselors/social workers, students, and/or interns engaged in related therapeutic/patient‑care activities, as appropriate to the individual position.

Minimum Job Requirements

Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related degree with 1 year directly related experience.

Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) OR Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) OR Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) OR Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) licensure pending, as documented by temporary license.

BLS certification required.

Completed degree from an accredited institution above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis.

Verification of education and licensure will be required if selected for hire.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provides counseling, therapy, and/or psychotherapy to clients and families as appropriate; prepares treatment plans, discharge plans, and follow‑up care programs; provides therapeutic crisis intervention and emergency services as needed.

Collects data through interview, case history, psychological tests, and observational techniques; evaluates data to identify causes of problems and determine proper therapeutic approach or referral.

Consults with other therapists and related professional and paraprofessional staff in performance of therapeutic and/or casework; refers clients to appropriate service agencies.

Provides and/or arranges therapeutic interventions for patients or clients in crisis or with serious disturbance problems.

Refers clients to appropriate social service agencies for financial assistance and other services; may visit patients and families in their homes to provide counseling and outreach services.

Follows up to determine reliability of treatment; changes method and degree of therapy when indicated.

Establishes and maintains case files, referrals, and related documents; prepares documentation for civil commitment hearings or other legal proceedings; keeps record of patient data to ensure appropriate treatment and care.

Consults with other legal and treatment agencies and individuals in relation to patient/client records, rights, and responsibilities.

Plans and facilitates community outreach and education; may serve as liaison and representative to community organizations and schools.

Provides clinical supervision to lower‑level therapists and/or graduate social work students/interns, as appropriate, and/or consulting services to other patient‑care professionals.

Performs various administrative functions such as monitoring budgets, preparing reports and correspondence; may participate in research projects to develop service plans and propose changes to program policies and procedures.

May provide formal teaching, consultation, and in‑service training to relevant professionals in handling and/or referral of various matters.

Performs miscellaneous job‑related duties as assigned.
