Job Summary Under the general direction of the department laboratory manager and director, this technical support position provides clinical support to the department and technical staff by providing maintenance of clinical instruments, accessioning of specimens, phlebotomy, and supply management.

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions

Assesses acceptability of transplant patient serum samples for processing. Performs specimen accession, centrifugation, prepares labels and aliquots samples for freeze down and long-term storage.

Performs storage tracking and inventory of samples for continued archive or discard of samples.

Helps with accessioning of samples that come in through the mail or the hospital (this includes send out samples). Appropriately documents send out samples and informs all parties for billing purposes.

Performs routine temperature and function checks on laboratory cold storage units, centrifuges, waterbaths, environment, and laboratory Purlab water system to ensure operational standards are maintained. Assists in maintaining laboratory cleanliness and labware is maintained. Assists with preparing reagents for laboratory use under direct supervision of technical staff.

Assists in administrative duties related to archive and storage of laboratory documents and patient results.

Provides phlebotomy of volunteers deemed as healthy normal controls for laboratory quality assurance and control of reagent suitability. Maintains phlebotomy certification levels and continuing education required to maintain skills.

Required Minimum Education

Associates Degree

Bachelor’s Degree: Biology or relevant scientific field (Preferred)

Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s) All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

Additional License(s) And Certification(s)

Phlebotomy certification through ASCP, AMT, NHA, NCCT, ABB, NPA Upon Hire Preferred
