Overall responsibility is to increase sales, maximize market penetration and achieve sales budget by establishing and executing a sound business plan. Effectively sell directly to end users in the Academic and Biomedical Research Market and achieve established goals though product promotion, demonstration, and proposals, acting as a Brand Ambassador for Nikon Microscopy and Imaging products as part of a sales team. Perform account management activities and administrative functions for purposes of planning, recordkeeping, customer database maintenance, inventory documentation, and forecasting. Regularly report sales activity and market conditions to Regional or Area Manager. The employee spends significant amounts of time traveling and working in research laboratories at universities, hospitals, Biotech and other related biomedical institutions.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Create and execute a strategic sales plan and achieve sales budget and product mix goals for territory. Work in a self-directed manner without direct, daily supervision.

Expand sales channels to increase market penetration in designated product areas and markets through individual actions as well as a part of a coordinated sales team.

Design, Assemble, Integrate, and Provide Training and support for microscopy and imaging instruments

Provide effective and persuasive product demonstrations in a competitive sales environment

Provide current and high-level technical expertise to Biomedical Research Customers within the territory. Communicate product and proposal information confidently to key Stakeholders effectively in order to generate sales.

Monitor daily/monthly orders and provide accurate forecasting and comprehensive account information to Regional or Area Sales Manager.

Prepare and deliver professional quotations and proposals

Provide excellent Customer Service outcomes through personal actions and effective resource utilization

Submit reports providing critical sales data including but not limited to overall sales activity, daily activity log, business trends and competitive market activity.

Attend and actively participate in company activities, including sales meetings, training classes, workshops, seminars and trade shows as required.

Monitor all incoming inquiries via telephone and e-mail and ensure timely response. Act with a sense of business urgency and in accordance with company timelines.

Routinely work outside of normal hours of operation, as needed, in order to fulfill essential responsibilities.

Scheduling

Strategic Opportunity and Call Planning

Expense Reports

Expenses and Mileage recordkeeping

Periodic (Weekly/Monthly) Status and Production Reports

Database Management

Sales Forecasting and Budgetary Reports

Other Duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience with MS applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)

Introductory programming experience a plus

Advanced knowledge of computer hardware and software

Preference for NIS Elements Software experience

Strong knowledge of microscopy and scientific instruments

Preference for high-performance imaging applications including confocal and super resolution

Mechanical aptitude for instrument assembly and integration

Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate internally and externally, representing the Company professionally and effectively to customers and other external sources.

Excellent presentation skills

Ability to lift and carry up to 40lbs

Ability to travel by car, public transportation, or air, overnight included, up to ~50% (varies by territory and project)

Ability to routinely access and visit customer sites to evaluate needs, promote product or service product (Up to 90% field work at customer sites)

Ability to communicate with people outside of the organization representing the Company to customers, government and other sources.

Capability to prioritize and multi-task, managing multiple projects of varying magnitudes and velocities

Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others in a team selling environment, and maintain them over time.

EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

B.S. in Bioscience or related field

Ph.D. preferred

Customer Service and/or Sales Experience Preferred

Sales experience in scientific and optical instrumentation highly preferred, but not necessary.

Hands‑on experience with microscopy applications preferred

Knowledge of Nikon‑specific Instrumentation and Operation highly preferred

The salary range for this position is $70- 110K, please note that the salary information shown above is a general guideline only.
