Position Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Team Lead to join our team. This leadership role requires a versatile individual with advanced abilities in both mechanical and electrical disciplines. The successful candidate will be a proven leader, capable of taking ownership of complex repairs, mentoring colleagues, driving continuous improvement, and collaborating effectively with engineering and management. This individual will work independently with minimal supervision, while supporting and improving key metrics: Safety, Quality, Productivity, Delivery, and Continuous Improvement.
Responsibilities
Follow all prescribed Health, Safety and Environmental laws, rules, and regulations.
Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations during maintenance activities, identify potential hazards and implement corrective measures to maintain a safe working environment.
Complete all required safety and regulatory training as applies in a timely manner.
Survey job sites to identify potential hazards and countermeasures prior to commencing work.
Troubleshoot mechanical/equipment breakdowns. Act as the primary mechanic for complex repairs.
Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, schematics, blueprints, service manuals, and work orders to perform required work; help clarify concepts and provide equipment training for new colleagues.
Disassemble/install new machines, condition monitoring sensors, equipment, etc.
Recommend and execute equipment changes to improve safety, quality, and/or uptime. Vet changes through engineering and ensures documentation is updated.
Lead the installation, assembly, and testing of machines and equipment.
Use a variety of tools to complete repairs, installations, adjustments, and part replacements.
Work from established procedures and/or verbal instructions.
Identify opportunities for PM improvements and discuss them with Engineering and Management.
Lead routine preventive maintenance in accordance with specified tasks and procedures.
Take and record measurements to allow for machine condition trend analysis; properly enter data into CMMS.
Regularly evaluate PM procedures and make suggestions for improvement.
Coordinate with production to ensure equipment is prepared for preventative maintenance.
Audit lock out tag outs to ensure equipment is safe prior to work.
Inspect machines regularly for signs of malfunctions, including visual and sound inspections.
Look for opportunities and make recommendations.
Work closely with maintenance colleagues and other departments to coordinate maintenance activities.
Complete record of work performed in CMMS system; look for opportunities to improve quality of data.
Interface with all levels of team members in a positive, team‑building manner; share knowledge and provide technical expertise/support when needed.
Maintain work areas neat and orderly in accordance with Visual Management and 5S Standards.
Respond quickly to service calls with a sense of urgency to maximize equipment efficiency; seek out more complex tasks necessary to maintain plant operations.
Use proper tools for each task.
Escalate all issues affecting key metrics: Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
Other duties as assigned due to business needs.
Respond to emergencies, sprint, and provide emergency support when needed.
Lift up to 50 lbs; walk, stand for extended periods, stretch, climb, twist, turn, pull, push, reach, bend.
Minimum Education Required High School/GED
Additional Qualifications / Responsibilities
BA University Degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Industrial Engineering OR Associate degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Industrial Engineering OR 12+ years of work‑related experience.
Journeyman status; full apprenticeship certified (4 yrs) in Mechanical or Electrical trade OR 12+ years of highly skilled maintenance experience.
High level of mechanical troubleshooting skills.
Advanced electrical competencies: switches, photo‑eyes, cameras, PLCs, ladder logic, VFDs, and basic faults (troubleshooting).
Support multiple departments within the plant.
Ability to work alone on complex jobs.
Fluent English (speak, read, write).
Follow instructions and complete assigned tasks in a reasonable timeframe.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
No direction from engineering or supervision required.
Ability to mentor, train, lead while communicating properly and appropriately with operators, team leads, supervisors and maintenance colleagues.
Clearly communicate to operators, supervisors and managers when troubleshooting issues or working on scheduled maintenance initiatives.
Review documented work in CMMS for completeness and accuracy.
Write procedures, initiate drawing changes, investigate part substitutions and complete change management.
Coordinate with planner for job plan creation and improvement.
Lifting ability and stamina as described above.
