Temporary Park Maintenance Worker

About the Position
The County of Riverside’s Human Resources Temporary Assignment Program (TAP) seeks a Temporary Park Maintenance Worker to support the Parks Department at Santa Ana River Bottom in Riverside, CA.
This position requires work in outdoor environments under extreme weather conditions, including prolonged exposure to high heat, cold temperatures, and wet conditions. Employees must be capable of extensive hiking over uneven terrain, sustained kneeling and bending, and lifting, carrying, or handling objects and equipment weighing 60 pounds or more. Work assignments may occur in remote or rugged areas with exposure to living and deceased wildlife, hazardous vegetation, and potential threats such as rattlesnakes, bees, wasps, wild boar, mountain lions, domestic dogs, poison oak, and stinging nettle.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct maintenance work on reserve lands throughout western Riverside County.
Install and repair fences and gates, often in remote locations.
Operate string‑trimmers, tractor mowing equipment, and apply herbicides for weed abatement.
Assist in the installation and long‑term maintenance of restoration projects.
Perform trash dumping, homeless encampment cleanup, and tractor grading of dirt roads.
Execute other semi‑skilled maintenance work and collaborate with other agencies for Code, OHV, and illegal dumping enforcement.
Provide assistance in emergency situations.
Answer public inquiries and complaints regarding reserve operations and maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with common maintenance tools, equipment, and materials.
Basic knowledge of vehicle preventive maintenance.
Additional Requirements
Valid Class C Driver’s License required at time of offer.
Work Schedule Monday‑Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM.
Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in grounds or building maintenance and repair, landscape gardening, or as a Park Attendant with the County of Riverside Parks Department. College level courses may substitute for up to one year of experience.
Knowledge and Ability
Knowledge of common tools, equipment, and materials used in maintenance work; basic vehicle preventive maintenance techniques.
Ability to read and follow written instructions, write simple reports, perform routine maintenance, operate equipment, and comply with safety procedures.
Capability to engage courteously with the general public.
